You're right...for once. Like people have said, we got our azzes handed to us today. The defense didn't show up. Not only could they not even come close to containing Newton, much less stopping him, they couldn't tackle anyone, and couldn't cover anyone. The offense sucked very predictably.
It wasn't all Miles fault...the ENTIRE staff got out coached tonight. Offensively, we seem to be pounding a square peg in a round hole. This staff simply doesn't know how to use it's players strenghts to its advantages. Shep at wr, T-Bob at guard (when he's already undersized for center), Ridley running delays out of the shotgun (when's he clearly a power back), and how about throwing deep more than 2-3 times on the worst secondary in the SEC. Defensively, we played 9 against 11. Our safeties were playing deep the way teams are playing Drew Brees right now...trying to stop long passing plays over the top. I can't remember a single play when we tried to stack the box or run blitz. The only way to stop Cam is to get to him before he and the o-line get going down hill. Simply a piss poor defense game plan tonight, along with what has been a piss poor offensive game plan ALL year...
Agree. It looked like a different defensive scheme today, and I'm not sure they should have changed anything. If they change anything, they should've used a spy...and didn't.
Well I'm not mad or bitter, and not sure why, exactly. I really thought we'd win so I was pretty numb throughout the game almost in disbelief to what I was seeing.
I'm upset. I thought LSU would win as well. I knew it would be a close game, but I didn't think our defense would be destroyed like that, and I never envisioned Fairley doing what he did to our OL.
I thought for sure we'd load up and let our DB's go one-on-one. It's what you do, make a team beat you with their weakness while you concentrate on stopping what their strength is. Apparently our coaches don't get it but that was not THE reason we lost. Our WR's dropped plenty of balls that should've been caught among other things on the other side of the ball.
Dworzack (sp) and Hebert got pwned by Fairley. Embarrasing. AU on offense was impressive. Newton is most certainly the real thing, but the blocking scheme is incredible...as is the execution. At least today it was.
Pretty sure that's EXACTLY why we lost. I realize they only scored 24, but they controlled the LOS. Dominated it.
That's why we needed to send more than they could block and stop Newt but our Oline got embarased today too, imo. Boy Derek Helton was money though, wasn't he! Factor in AU's starting field position and that also skews just how bad we got beat.
We made it look a lot better by trying to stop 8 blockers and Cam running behind them with only 6-7 in the box consistently...
