Lengthy, unprecedented suspensions might be in the future

    i completely agree. you've got like 80,000 people paying to go to all the Saints games in the Superdome alone, not to mention all the other fans that have vested a lot of their precious time and/or money into the Saints

    so why would you punish all those people who had nothing to do with this when you can simply focus the punishment on the people who are actually guilty?

    for Spygate, the League fined Belichick $500,000, which was the maximum fine allowed at the time and the largest fine in league history. what's $500,000 to Belichick? he had to sell two Ferraris? i hope the maximum fine allowed has been raised since then so they can just hit Payton, Loomis, etc. with huge fines ($1 million? $2 million?), instead of having to suspend them or make the Saints give up draft picks

    the biggest thing i don't understand is that all of this is caught on film. every hit, every tackle, every physical contact committed by the Saints is all on film for all to see. i could understand punishing players for illegal hits, dirty hits, dangerous hits, etc... but if the hits were legal hits, then who cares if those hits were motivated by a bounty or not?
