Hey, I think you've got me wrong. I hope he throws for 10 TDs a game for the rest of his career. I'll gladly stand here and tell everyone that I was wrong while celebrating our championships. Unlike most of you, though, I say seeing in believing so until proven otherwise I am going to expect more of the same from him, which is below-average play and carelessness with the football.
This is a bunch of crap. There were a couple of games last year when he had like 10 consecutive incompletions - and a lot of them weren't even close. His ball is pretty. He has a great spiral and nice trajectory and he throws an extremely catchable ball, but that doesn't mean he throws it where he's supposed to. Lee completed 53% last year. Jefferson is completing 63% this year.
Lee passed for over 200 yards a game last year, too. Jefferson hasn't this year. Lee threw more touchdown passes, too. Both of these quarterbacks have virtues and faults, but they are what we've got.
A big arm does not equate an accurate arm. I just hope that Lee does not make any foolish decisions out there. The coaching staff will have a very tight leash on Lee and I don't mind if they play extremely conservative today.
So if he tears it up today, will it be because he has improved.. or because his competition was against Tech?
Because his competition is Tech (but it doesn't mean that he hasn't improved if he does well). I'm not knocking Tech because they seem to be a lot better than previous years and are a pretty good team. But I don't think they've beat us in like 100 years or something. It's just hard to tell a whole lot from playing against Tech. Last week wasn't the best indicator either because it was such a tough situation to come into. However, if you're good you'll do it when it counts the most. You always have to be ready for your shot. That's how you leave no doubt.
But wouldn't that be a discredit to Jefferson, considering his lack-luster (at best) play against the cupcakes he has faced? I'm simply saying this because people cannot have it both ways, really. If seeing is believing.. at least. Looks to me that for the majority believing is seeing.
Yeah, it was a discredit to JJ earlier in the year. I thought his play against ULL was very lackluster. Against Vandy, he was very accurate, but they were all mostly very short passes. He didn't take many shots down the field. So yeah, I don't think he played good against ULL and he was just okay against Vandy. But he threw for 3 TDs against UW in the first game on the road and had good rushing yards, he threw for over 200+ at State and Georgia in wins and he's done really well the last three weeks. So he's showing that he has improved. The only other game I thought he had big issues in was against Florida and we had major coaching issues in that game as well. He held the ball too long, took too many sacks, rarely threw down the field (although I don't think the coaches called many downfield passes), etc. But he's looked a lot better since then. If Lee doesn't have any turnovers against Tech, that would at least be a reason for optimism. It's a good time for him to play because if we need him at Ole Miss, at least he'll have a game of playing with the starters under his belt. I don't think Tech is a giant cupcake or anything, so it's at least a decent test. You just can't compare it to most of our competition. Lee was terrible against our "cupcakes" as a starter last year. He didn't even throw for 100 yards against Tulane and was awful for 3 quarters of the Troy game. So if he has a good outing I'll take it. I don't care who it's against. I'm not worried about the stats so much as the way his passes look. It would be nice to see some consistency in his passes. I think that's the biggest thing for him.
