Look for Dickson, TT, and oh, yeah, some guy named Byrd to be alternatives. Byrd getting doubled allows LaFell to get open alot. If they key on LaFell, then Byrd will be open. If they key on both, CS will be running up the middle all day long. I like any of these scenarios.
One thing with Lee is he needs to work on his footwork. He needs to set his feet and throw with momentum toward the line. Imagine how much more zip his passes would have he had proper footwork. However other than that I think he played a pretty good game.
Same here. But with LaFell, Byrd and Dickson, it might be hard for Tolliver to have that "break out game". He might have a long TD catch (hopefully more!) in a big game, but I don't think he'll approach the 5-7 catch, 100 yard games that LaFell is starting to put together. Next year, Tolliver could be that type. This year? Again, not with the players ahead of him. Plus, I'd like to see Tolliver add some more weight. LaFell was that tall, lanky WR--still is--but you can tell he's added some weight.
The INT he threw in the flat was inexcusable. He needs to get this fixed. Lee is the most frustrating of all QBs, IMO. He has incredible talent but makes incredibly bad decisions. I know I am old school, but I think the QBs most important job (esp when you have a good defense and running game) is to not turn the ball over. Whatever that takes. Limit his reads to one. Deep throws, misdirected roll outs. I don't think he looked exceptional vs MSU and that was not the best defense LSU will face this year. If he thinks that was tough, just wait until Bama and UGA gets ahold of him. QB play must improve.
If you're talking about in the Auburn game, I agree. If you're talking about his pick last night, that one is at least partially on Dickson. Ball dam near hit him in the earhole, he just wasn't looking. They're #11 in the country against the pass so far this year It will. This guy has only been playing football for 5 years. And he has only 6 quarters of SEC play under his belt.
The sky is not falling, Chicken Little. I am thrilled with the progress that Lee is making. After the first half of last week, I was really upset that we had a stable of excellent receivers who couldn't get a ball thrown to them. The floodgates are opened, now, and Lee is improving.
Have to agree with StaceyO here. Not sure where the "incredibly bad decisions" are coming from. Looks much better than I had hoped for, and much better than he did in the first 2 games. It certainly appears that the game is slowing down for him. Our Oline is protecting him well, Scott is running the ball ferociously, and it has allowed our play action to work much better than expected. Lafell continues to find seams in zone coverage, as does Dickson, and secondaries will continue to get punished. As a result, LSU is able to go vertical, and I only expect Lee to gain more confidence and better rhythm with all his receivers. I believe he hit 7 different guys last night. Lafell is tied for most catches in the SEC, and second most yards behind AJ Green, who has one more game in the tank. In case, you hadn't noticed, he isn't throwing the ball to himself, and they are not all bubble screens with tons of yac. Lee is getting it down the field. He has the second highest QB rating(146.5), after Tebow(146.7) in the SEC. And Lee's 269 yards passing last night? JaMarcus only surpassed that mark 3 times in his career, and it wasn't as a redshirt freshman. Add Scott rushing for more yards than any back in the SEC(with one less game), and you have a potent offense. We lead in yards/game(427.3), and are second in points/game(35.5). With the questions at QB to begin the season, did anyone think we would have this? It's early still, but we have faced at least two decent defenses. Lee is going to have some growing pains, but he has shown a level of maturity I did not expect. Combine that with Hatch(once healthy), and JJ's potential, and we are looking pretty good.
Thanks Dude, Those are amazing stats considering Lee's experience! The only thing I can add to that is think back how you felt at halftime last week, and look at where we are now. Personally I was trying to accept the fact that LSU would lose half of their games! Our offense will continue to improve as the guys mesh and develop.:thumb::lsup::geauxtige
You forgot to mention C. Mitchell Having a strong supporting cast should put less pressure on Lee; I think he will do very well if he does not put pressure on himself (something that I suspect was the case up to the first half of the Auburn game), and just focus on running the offense.
You sure you were watching the Lee playing for LSU? Because Jarrett Lee's passing efficiency is only behind a Heisman winner's in the SEC. Lee has surpassed even the most optimistic fans expectations to this point.
