The quote "Take it with a grain of salt" was invented for Lee Corso. He is to CFB what Dick Vitale is to CBB a blathering idiot. Would love to see him and Mark May stand between Vernon Gholston and Glen Dorsey slamming into each other.
LMAO at the fans on here that don't consider OSU an elite team. I'm not saying that LSU isn't either but what would be the criteria for a team to be considered elite and how would LSU fit in such criteria over OSU?
My mind knows that what he and Holtz say shouldn't bother me, but the passion I have for my team gets me fired up when I hear it. It's really a tired argument won at every angle by LSU and that is, what other 2 loss team deserved to be there more than us? OU is really the only team that had a legitimate argument and they got exposed in their bowl game. UGA (didn't win their division, blown out by mediocre Tenn team) and USC (losing at home to 40pt dog, nuff said) surely didn't deserve it. Maybe WVU, but no one really knew how good they were until they played OU. Who then?
The issue is that Corso said LSU was not an elite team. IMO, the two teams in the NC game are both "elite teams" and frankly are at this point in the season, the final game, the only two teams that qualify. Everyone else is home watching Lee Corso, Lou Holtz, Herbie and that crowd tell the world why the guys sitting home should be playing instead of LSU or OSU.
I have to say it doesn't make me feel any better to have lee corso on our side, but i've got to tell you, anyone who thinks ohio st. is not an elite team is kidding themselves. I have all the respect for LSU in the world, and consider them an elite team, but i don't expect to see my buckeyes walked on by them. It should be a great game in my opinion.
I just don't think that there were any elite teams this year...OSU and LSU are great teams, but I won't say they're elite...This was a down year for college football in terms of quality teams a high number of mediocre teams...I would say that LSU, OSU, OU, USC, UGA and WVU are great teams that have struggled on multiple ocassions during the season against mediocre teams...Elite teams don't struggle against mediocre teams, it's that simple...I guess won't mind if LSU is not an elite team as long as they win the :crystal: .
I agree with you 100%. I think Ohio State is a great team and by no means will this be a blowout, maybe these two can get involved in the kinda game which will surplant Texas/USC as the best college game I've seen in my time. I wish Ohio State luck, but of course I hope we go out there and get it done. I also agree with your statement that there were no "elite" teams in college this year, but in the end I think this game features the two best teams, and the two most deserving teams in all the land playing for the title. Once again, I apologize for my misquoted information in the first post of this thread, I also apologize if it came off sounding like I said Ohio State wasn't good or didn't deserve it, but like someone else said, when I see my team get trashed on...I get angry. :tigereye: :geauxtige
I never base one great season as judgment for a teams entire body of work. Example, to this point in the year I would say Kansas has the best resume based on wins and losses alone this season. I would not consider them an elite team. A very good team yes but elite no. OSU, LSU, USC, and even WVU have great seasons every year and when a team comes up against one of these schools they always get that teams best shot. Nobody overlooks these teams yet they still finish every season with a remarkable record and usually, at the very least, the conference championship. To be an elite team you have to do it year in and year out and always be in contention for the MNC. I'll say that there are no world beater CFB teams out there this year but all the teams I mentioned contend for the NC most years(every team has its down years due to the nature of CFB).
Just because no one went undefeated, that doesn't mean this was a "down" year. Actually this was a very up year. Some parity, yes, but a lot of great teams. Regardless of the championship outcome, this was a very exciting year.
