women vote for obama, pretty overwhelmingly. one thing they really like is to do is grill candidates about equal pay fr equal work. this leads me to a couple questions: male pornstars make significantly less. is this legal? same with male models. the WNBA players make significantly less money than the nba players. is this illegal? they are doing the exact same jobs? short people make significantly less than tall people, perhaps to an even larger extent than women. should this be illegal? can i for instance, hire 5 dudes, then realize i can hire another dude, but i cant afford to pay him as much, can i hire that dude if he is willing to work, and he cant sue me, unless she is a chick? because this dude or chick will not make as much as the others. but he/she still will take the job. ledbetter sued because she found that men working with her had made far more. why didnt she just negotiate a better salary or work somewhere else if she was worth more? why did her company even let her know what the men were making? if the case goes to court, shouldnt the company just be able to tell everyone to fuck off and that their salary information is private? why is the government controlling prices yet again? if i buy an item on ebay, and a women buys the same item for less, can i sue? can i sue because i have to pay to get into a bar and ladies do not on ladies night? why not? the fact is that salaries are contracts are private matters, none of anyone elses business. if you sign a contract, thats your own stupidity if you get paid less. you sue when you sign a contract and the other party doesnt honor it. also the equal pay acts have not worked at all, obviously, women still get paid way less. this is another issue that stupid people use against political candidates. if you are a candidate the smart choice is just to not answer, because people are morons and honesty only hurts you.
I think pornstars and athletes are considered independent contractors, but who knows, interesting question though.
Simply put, it makes stupid people feel justified for being stupid. We were not created equal and this is shown through every aspect of life. Some people are just better than the rest. It is a fact of life. The only equal footing is that everyone has a chance, but a chance does not mean you get equal results.
I think this is correct. The answer to Martin is the squeaky wheel gets the grease. It's not about right or wrong. Clearly these things overlap and the govt should basically stay out of it. That's just not the world we live in however. Political correctness affects juries and laws alike.
I wonder if a man sued for equal pay would he have a chance or would the courts have to admit that people make less pay because they deserve it. I hate when republicans are asked about this. They can't win. Unsophisticated people will always favor stupid equal pay laws and not understand the damage they do.
You're right though. Your only correct way to answer is pretend you didn't hear it. There is no good answer that will fly. The truth would kill you.
They get paid less because they don't have grounds to demand more. I mean really, lets see how this negotiation would go. "Oh, you want more money? Hmm I wonder where else I can find some guy wanting to get paid to bang hot broads all day" Hell they would have a line out the door of guys willing to do it for free.
The market always works to set prices correctly. If women re getting paid less then they should learn to negotiate salaries. Mitt had to totally change the subject when asked about it. It's a true no win. Same thing wi so many issues, minimum wage, rent controls, cutting spending. Honest answers make people hate you. Mitt is smart to not say what he will cut. People went fucking nuts when he mentioned big bird. Democracy, what ya gonna do.
In a democracy we can be flexible. Certainly there are situations where it is discriminatory, such as a corporate policy that sets a lower salary for women across the board based on gender alone. Certainly there are others where there is a competitive situation between individuals or both genders who bring different skills and baggage to the salary negotiation and there is no discrimination in offering different salaries for different positions/skillsets. Judges who can see the gray areas should be allowed to make judgements based on the merits of each case. Women take 50% more sick leave than men. Young women take extended maternity leave. Perhaps companies can prove a lower productivity justifies a lower salary . . or perhaps it is simply discrimination.
