I think it's just same 'ol, same 'ol for the perennial season ticket holders. They put so much into the tailgating that they are tired by the time the game gets there. Personally, I wouldn't tailgate if I had season tickets. I would get there early, go to a nearby restaurant and not go through the time and effort of setting up, cooking, picking up stuff before the game, etc. (Makes my old ass tired just thinking about it...) So, the game is secondary to the party, especially for cupcakes (though Kent State won 11 games a year ago--more than us...) For those of us who live out of town/state, we don't get to go as often, and it pisses us off that people leave early. The only time I've left early since I moved from Louisiana in '97 was for the 2010 WVU game. Against my better judgment, my husband bought a ticket for our then-kindergartner (all because her football-loving older sister made it through the whole triple OT Arkansas game in '07--never mind that it was an afternoon game.) She had a meltdown before the game and lasted only until halftime, but the game started at 8 p.m. Never again. She just doesn't get a ticket anymore and stays at my parents' house, while my older daughter and I go to games. We'll be going to the Arkansas game (if we get tickets), and we'll stay until the end. Then, we'll walk quickly to the edge of campus and be home in a half hour.
I think that it is more about how far away they live. In my section, the season ticket holders from Baton Rouge mostly stay to the end. But the ones that have to drive home to St. Bernard Parish or Shreveport want a jump on the post-game traffic and if LSU is up 3 TD's in the 4th, they head for the ramps.
I guess I get that. Take me, for instance. I can afford the season tickets these days, but I live 8 hours away. As my daughters get older, their extra-curriculars have us busier and busier. I simply cannot get to Baton Rouge, except at Thanksgiving. And I'm even a bit concerned about that this year, as my 7th grader is part of Plano Metropolitan Ballet, and even though they don't do The Nutcracker (thank God...it's SO overdone), they perform every weekend in January and are simply not allowed to miss rehearsals (11 to 3 on Saturdays). I'm hoping that they won't have rehearsal the Saturday after Thanksgiving, but I know she has scheduled rehearsals during Christmas break, so...
Time to break in the younger daughter to college football and let the ol' ball and chain handle ballet practice duty.
This is a subject that comes up every season. The make up of the stadium crowd is entirely different. It hasn't been the same since TAF took over the tickets and it never will be again, time to quit crying about it.
Anyone but them. You put more of those jackasses in the stands and we may lose the damn band. No, screw those immature punks, raffle them off to people that actually want to see the game instead of beatnicks that only want to see how many vulgar chants they can get onto national TV.
It sucks and looks bad on TV, but it's nothing new. It's been going on for years now. It mostly only happens in non conference cupcake games or when the outcome is no longer in doubt. However, yesterday was the earliest I'd ever seen it done, which was during halftime. They usually wait until midway through the 3rd or start of the 4th unless it's a close game.
This is a funny thread! I guess we could just lock everyone in the stadium until the game is done. I can see the notation on the bottom of the ticket in fine print on the back now ... "No early departures, all ticket holders who enter gates will be locked in the stadium until after all end game ceremonials and the lights are turned off".
We love 4 hrs away. When we go to the games we stay till the end and then some. Afterwards we head back to truck and eat tailgate leftovers and talk about the game till traffic is pretty much gone. We go for the whole experience. 4 quarters of one and a double dose of the other.
