I've talked to two insurance agents today and they told me that if I am lucky, my premium will just double from my current rate. I can in no way shape or form keep my old insurance plan, and I basically cannot have a high deductible plan anymore. I did some research last night and it looks like they're right.

This is great news. I always wanted to pay more but wasn't sure how to go about it. Thanks Obama!

You're wrong. There will be one doctor for every American citizen, even the one who earned their citizenship by jumping a fence. It wll only cost you 5 cents to visit the doctor, who will pass out free meds along with the cotton candy that shoots out his ass. America's healthcare system is now perfect. Obama said so.

just got my rate quote from BCBS of NC and as of October 1st, my premiums will be reduced by $45 per month. I'd be very wary of anyone who says it will double. there are provisions in the ACA that force insurance companies to spend at least 80%, 85% in some states, on the individuals health coverage. If not, they are required to return the amount to the customer at the end of the year. Many insurance companies are trying to grandfather in as many customers as they can prior to 1/1/14 when those provisions take effect and are scaring people by stating things like, "your premiums will double...better go ahead and "lock in" a rate now."

The plan I have my wife and kids on will go up about 25% next renewal. My plan which had decreased every year between 2007 and 2009 is going up by about 20%.

This provision makes little sense to me. It changes health coverage from insurance, a transfer of risk, to a pre-paid services plan. I see that leading to a less efficent model.

Only for those who are never ill or never take medications. For most people, premiums are used up fairly quickly by the charge of services rendered. This provision is actually one that took effect at the beginning of 2013 and I believe only about 3 million Americans received refund checks this year which is slightly less than 1% of the population.

I am young and healthy and never go to the doctor. I'm the most highly affected group.

Me too. I have been on antibiotics once in the last 15 years, and it was about 6 months ago when I stepped on a nail. Everyone in my family is on a HDHP, and I know that nowhere near 80% of my premiums are being expended. I don't think 5% of my premiums are being expended. Seems like my plan, and my favorite tax avoidance scheme are about to go away. The actuarial value on my plan does not fall within the HHS guidelines, because noone in my house is ever sick.

The plans my family uses are going to get muchmore expensive, and the jury s still out on whether they will even qualify as insurance once the law is fully implemented. What is clear is that Obama lied. I like my plan, and I will not be able to keep it.

HDHP with HSA were the best things going, but instead of doing more to encourage people on them Obama fucked it up royally and made them useless.

Precisely. We should all be going towards those plans not away from them. I never in my wildest dreams imagined I would lose the ability to have my hdhp with hsa.
