thanks. I was just about to come in here and ask Izzy when Leach became a 3 or 4 time national champion like he's made out to be. His system is perfect for the Big 12 = that's a conference with mediocre defenses. In the SEC . . . a defense-first conference, he'd get drilled in the first few seasons. Again, like Rich Rodriguez is having in Michigan.
I think Leach would be an exciting coach to have, just because he is such a freak of nature when it comes to putting up passing yards. Look at the stats under 5 different Texas Tech QBs the last 9 seasons: QB's Passing Yards/game Graham Harrell, 2008 - #2 in nation, #1 in Big XII Graham Harrell, 2007 - #1 in nation, #1 in Big XII Graham Harrell, 2006 - #3 in nation, #1 in Big XII Cody Hodges, 2005 - #2 in nation, #1 in Big XII Sonny Cumble, 2004 - #1 in nation, #1 in Big XII B.J. Symons, 2003 - #1 in nation, #1 in Big XII Kliff Kingsbury, 2002 - #1 in nation, #1 in Big XII Kliff Kingsbury, 2001 - #5 in nation, #1 in Big XII Kliff Kingsbury, 2000 - #7 in nation, #1 in Big XII Heisman Voting Texas Tech QB B.J. Symons, 2003 - finished #10 Texas Tech QB Kliff Kingsbury, 2002 - finished #9
It would be interesting to see if RR is a failure or not in a few years. At the beginning of the year, I remember a lot of analysts talking about how Michigan would suck this year, and that the rest of the Big Ten better get their shots in now, because Michigan is going to be a beast under RR once he is able to bring in the personnel that fit his schemes (smaller, quicker players, even the linemen). But yeah, it could be that guys like RR and Leach have offenses that are great in one conference, but don't make it in other conferences.
IMO the media is why Rodriquez will be fired at Michigan before he sees the glory days begin. I think he's already on the hotseat now. I think he will have probably around a 6-6 season next year, then the media will proclaim them the "sleepers", etc... and put them high in the preseason poll the following year and when they underachieve, he'll be gone. What I'm trying to say is I think the media will overrate them one year before they're ready to break out and he'll be doomed by that. Because the fact of the matter is he's a ways away from being competitive and Michigan won't give him a ton of time to get it fixed, even though their poor season last year would have happened with anyone at coach.
He'll amazingly turn Burns into a passing machine. My whole point is he'll develop a great offense at Auburn, all he needs to do is allow a great DC to his his thing on the other side of the ball and you have a great formula for success.
Assuming he goes to Auburn: Leach might go with Chris Todd. When Tony Franklin took over at Auburn, he thought Burns was terrible as passer (horrible mechanics, footwork, etc). Leach might think the same thing. Also, Leach did recruit Chris Todd to come to Texas Tech and coached him for a year or two: [Chris Todd] Redshirted in 2005 with Texas Tech and then played in five games in 2006 for the Red Raiders before transferring to Hutchinson in January. (LINK) [Chris Todd] Originally attended Texas Tech where he redshirted in 2005. Transferred to Hutchinson in 2006 after appearing in playing in five games for the Red Raiders. (LINK) Rivals ranked Todd as the #20 pro-style QB in the nation (LINK).
100% dead-on. you can't turn a cat into a dog just by feeding it dog-food. Burns isn't a passer. No matter what offense he runs, he isn't a passer.
He wouldnt go with Todd because he is the worst QB on earth. That's why they wont win the west next year. I mean, Todd did run the spread this year. Maybe Deceks can find this thread and explain to me what happened to Neil Caudle. I know he has had some inuries.
