Re: LB Lamin Barrow Commits I don't believe those 40 times are real. This guy has consistently ran like, 4.7s in some combines. Just because a guy runs a 4.5 in one combine, does not mean that is legit. But these people saying he runs a 4.55, was he hand timed or laser timed, weather conditions/wind, what type of surface was he running on? Huge difference, it kinda gets complicated. If he really does run a 4.55, all the more better for us. Anyone know what he ran in the LSU camp? I just don't put much stock into 40 times, Football speed is 100% more important, especially when its really hard to tell how truly fast a player is in his 40. Rivals/Scout is not a good source, they are almost always wrong in their reported 40 times. I will say this, I like this guy more than Willie. With all that being said, straight line speed isn't nearly as important as lateral speed/agility for a LB. Ali had great lateral speed but bad straight line speed. The only time it was really exposed, was when he was in straight up man coverage. Zones and smarts can easily disguise a slower LB in coverage. Barrow is a solid pickup and fills a big need, I like it. Now we just need one more high profile LB to go with Minter/Baker and I think this class is a success. Plus next year we have a excellent shot at signing a top 50 national LB from Tennessee. This guy will probably be a elite prospect on Rivals IMO.
Re: LB Lamin Barrow Commits Being honest, in watching the film that rivals has put out on Barrow, I wouldn't think UL-L would offer this kid much less LSU. LSU obviously sees something different. He appears to have the makings of an MLB, not OLB. Thus he took the place of Farrell.
Re: LB Lamin Barrow Commits I agree his films aren't impressive and show him making alot of mistakes.IMO Farrell is better but thats JMO.
Re: LB Lamin Barrow Commits My biggest concern is how very timid he is. That's one characteristic you cannot have as a defensive player.
Re: LB Lamin Barrow Commits Yeah you don't seem him go across the line and attack first/tackle or take on the blocker.
Re: LB Lamin Barrow Commits With all this about Barrow.....it has to be an upgrade from #54. Cutera is characteristicly out of place, gets lost in traffic, ran over, can't shed a block, drags RB's down (after hanging on for 7 yard gains) instead of making form tackles, and consitently demonstrates HORRIBLE instincts. I really don't think I've seen him fill a hole and break down and tackle a RB all season. The guy is pathetic. I think I'd rather see Ron Brooks in there. I was worried before the season began for the now obvious reasons with our LB situation.......I'll admit that Perry Riley has improved, but Cutera still looks as bad as he did last season.
Re: LB Lamin Barrow Commits I don't think Sheppard, Riley or Cutrera are SEC caliber LBs. And Beckwith went from a potential late first round draft pick to not being drafted at all.
Re: LB Lamin Barrow Commits There are rumblings that Beckwith shouldn't be playing and is still injured. Not going to lie I was excited to steal the Stone Mountain Duo from GA. Cutrea is definitely not I-A.
Re: LB Lamin Barrow Commits As much as we bash the recruiting services, I think they got it right with Sheppard and Riley being 3 star recruits.
Re: LB Lamin Barrow Commits With how he playe the two previous seasons I was pretty high on Riley. It hasnt transfered at all into this season though. His angles are horrible, he is a step too slow, and isnt athletic enough in coverage. Sheppard appears a bit quicker and athletic but takes the worse angles. Poor in coverage as well. I think Riley would be better suited to the middle. None the less LSU is in desperate need of big time LBs yet we can never seem to bring them in. This isnt looking all that great either. Unless we can pull Jones away from UF, Bostic is very doubtful and I feel Telfort is too small.
