According to the lhsaa the OPOY and DPOY must be from the 1st team All-State team and the same website says that player won't be chosen until February. http://www.lhsaa.org/sports.php?id=5 But the Advocate has posted this article: http://www.2theadvocate.com/sports/preps/36455489.html
That was selected by the Louisiana Sportswriter's Association and not the LHSAA. http://www.nola.com/sports/t-p/index.ssf?/base/sports-41/1230186089262540.xml&coll=1
Thanks,,, I hope LSU can get Mingo also. If Jones does not qualify why not take a chance on the Georgia defensive player of the year... got speed for sure.. Be nice to have both the Georgia & Louisiana defensive player of the year..
We already passed on Texas' defensive POY - a LB a lot of people thought was awesome, can't remember his name. As istlstslls mentioned, a great player at one level does not necessarily translate to the next level.
Davis is probably more suited for safety at his height, especially if he runs a legitimate 4.37..or maybe something on offense. Linebacker doesn't really make sense for a guy like that.
I agree with his position but with that kinda speed - wow, speed is very precious - find a place for him..
This write up lists him at 5'7", 205 lbs, and others say he has a 4.3+ 40 time - something does not jive with those proportions and 40 time. Anyone else agree? Dude could be actually round, I suppose, and just roll down the field. He sounds like a helluva football player, though, irregardless of measureables. Sounds like the kind of guy you would expect to see make goal line stands in the 4th qtr b/c he plays with heart.
I have never heard of a 5'7" safety. Especially at a D1 School. I think he belongs on return teams and offense on gadget plays if he really does run a 4.37.
