I don't think Ellis Johnson was ever really a fan of his..Ron Cooper brought him in basically of his own accord. It's a bogus move to do though, especially this late in the process.
“I really don’t know why, they just called and broke it off,” Davis told the website. “They called my coach today. I haven’t talked to any USC coaches.” “I really don’t know what to think about it. I was committed to those guys and that’s all I was thinking about. They told my coach there were looking for more cornerbacks because they had more safeties come in and they were focusing on cornerbacks.” The 5-foot-7, 205-pound Davis told the website he has no other options at the current time. Georgia Tech desperately wanted Davis and offered a scholarship earlier this fall, but moved on after Davis said he needed more time to check out his options. http://www.ajc.com/sports/content/s...uit/entries/2009/01/10/south_carolina_11.html CockyTalk.com has a 24-page thread on him, and this is what they said: Cooper was a big advocate of Davis and persuaded the rest of the staff to take him. ... There is no doubt that he is a good player..But we are full at his position..We just dont have the room because we have needs at other positions (ie Wide Receiver, Offensive Line)..It's not like we dropped him because he isnt good enough.. here it is in a nutshell: Davis was recruited by Ron Cooper as a Safety/Spur Linebacker. Spurrier agrees to take his commitment on Cooper's recommendation. Cooper jumps for LSU earlier this week, so Spurrier & Co. have pulled his offer/commitment off the table---we've got our limit/need on LB's & S 's in commits. We're hoping to get another OL, WR or QB/DB in our class.
I would like to have him. He doesnt have ideal height but he is fast and has great instincts. Just seems to be a great player. I think he would be a good safety or weak side LB.
Well, from what I am reading on here he is a definate take. Barrow or Jones were never voted the defensive player of the state & we are taking them. If he or LSU finds out that he can't play at the SEC level he will transfer. Not like locking up a scholarship for four years..
I don't see anyone saying that on here. I don't think we will hear anything about this kid and LSU in the same sentence in the context of recruiting.
I don't doubt that at all. I just said that from what I was reading of him & how well he plays & being defensive player of the state in a couple of classifications I (just me no one else) would definately take a chance on him.
I don't know. I don't keep up with that. It doesn't directly translate to the collegiate level. It's like winning the Heisman. Usually means you're gonna suck at the NFL level.
