If CFB ever goes to a win-based playoff system, they can go to power rankings instead and just throw the biased, uninformed opinions based on score-watching out the window.

Sounds like Matt Hayes is one of the few national columnist who actually knows something. Gotta say I agree with just about everything he says. Really, not sure about Illini or Kansas - haven't seen them much yet. Agree totally with what he says about the SEC teams.

Bama has no business in the top 15 or really the top 20. The more accurate ranking for them would probably be anywhere between 21-25.

I agree with this. I also think Auburn should be around 15-20 but I have no problem with Florida or Texas Tech being ranked where they are.

Dude- I really do not know. Andre Smith is probably going to be out another week and Marlon Davis injured his knee in the Tulane game so who knows. But that had nothing to do with how we played against Tulane. It is beyond me what causes a team to (no matter the coach, the players etc.) be able to play like wild bandits in "big games" and compete with the best the SEC has to offer then look like they've never seen a football when playing lower tier/directional programs. It has been a definite pattern over the past ten years. I don't know what causes it and I don't know what's going to end it but I've yet to figure it out. I don't know if it's one of those uncontrollable "jinx" type deals where you've done everything in your control to solve it and it's kind of like the "injury bug" that you just have to wait until it leaves you and goes to someone else. I don't know.

But this offseason was one of the best offseasons the program has had in years. The difference the S&C program has made is unreal. I went to A-Day and my god everybody is bigger, faster and stronger. Players are doing EVERYTHING better with regard to work ethic and putting in the "work".

The Tulane DL was nowhere near as good as Clemson's (not saying Clemson's was great. Just saying Tulane's wasn't as good.) and we made them look like world beaters.

If we don't figure this out we're looking at another .500 season and with our "tough games" being on the road it could be worse. :nope:

But other than that I'm excited about this season. :thumb:

Are you sure this is an Alabama thing and not a Little Nicky thing? We seemed to do the same freaking thing when Saban was our coach. At least once a year we would either get a good scare or just flat-out lose against a team we should have taken to the woodshed. That tendency left with him.

Just looked like they took it for granted, much as we did last season and Tulane poured it on. Smith being out seemed to really disrupt JPW and the offense sort of followed that. If he is only out for a week or so, than that should work out well. As to motivation, I am sure practice is sucking for those guys today.

You guys should still win 8 games.

Has nothing to do with a "Little Nicky thing". This has been going on since the 90's. No matter the coach you can write it down that we're going to lay an egg against a "lower tier"/directional school damn near every year. We might not lose the game but we'll look like pure dawg ****. Then come out the next week in a big sec game and look like a damn top ten team.

No, Nick has done nothing to cause it. It existed YEARS before Nick got here.
