I was thinking the very same thing today (especially considering Beckwith's absence having such a profound effect in the Ole Miss game). I believe we will be back to a dominant defense.
yeah i really don't think we could handle wvu if we keep up with our second quarter meltdowns. but we always say that lsu's strength on defense is playing against teams that have pocket passers... well the only team we've lost to is a team with the ultimate pocket passer. so who the crap knows? that said, if we get to heal up on some injuries i think we'll do pretty damn good.
Virginia Tech now kicking themselves for that horrid loss vs BC. They would be in prime position to play LSU for the national title. Wouldn't that have been something?
Yeah that sounds pretty reasonable, and I believe if we were to get fully healthy it would be like UF-OSU last year. Problem is we have had trouble with mobile QB's all year long.
BUT we've beaten them all unless you consider Woodson mobile which I don't believe he is. If I remember Miss St and VT had mobile QB's that came into the game that wasn't able to do much against our D btw.
My guess is that we match up best with teams in the following order: 1. Kansas 2. Ohio State 3. Missouri 4. W. Virginia
Tebow gave us hell. Had they not tried to get cute with the passing game (see critical interception in 4th quarter), we may have lost that one. Just watch the game today. That first kid was going nowhere with a pocket passing game. The Shaeffer kid comes in and made us look silly.
What's the best way to prepare for a mobile QB? Is it possible that we didn't think Schafer would play at all, thus were caught flatfooted? He had a heckuva game, BTW... :geauxtige
Yeah, but remember Woodson scored a pivotal TD run in the game too so him running did hurt us. VT's Tyrod Taylor came into the game and scored VT's only TD on a run. They got much more yardage with Taylor in the game than with Glennon. We have great coverage with our DB's, and get good pressure on the QB...but if he gets out of the pocket and runs....not good. I am willing to bet we have given up a LOT of 1st downs on QB runs.
I'm not disagreeing with you guys here, really. Just pointing out we were able to beat all of these teams and their mobile QB's other than Kentucky. I personnally believe LSU lost that game more than Kentucky won it and as proof I'll point out Kentucky's losses to USCE and any other team they've lost to lately.
