Fairlay's gonna become a true Beauty in real life. He has all the makings of an undisciplined thug; since no one at the NCAA level is flagging him, his style of play will no doubt be amply rewarded in the biggies. In an Age where the officials rightly flag horse collaring, face masks & running into the punter, not picking up on slam dunks is a glaring mistake! Thumbs down on Fairlay! (Ironic name, that!).
Winners have earned the right to celebrate. But I saw, as you, Cam's focus on 'Himself's Godliness;' and his behavior during those last sets of rushes were actually somewhat disturbing to me...close-up camera on him showed him to be clearly reveling in his performance--lying on the ground, smiling, delaying getting off the turf! Look at those last sets of downs and you see a guy who is in LOVE! Guess with whom?
Fairley is from the same HS as JR. Its a very rough part of Mobile with a high thug factor. The shame of it all is Fairley doesnt need to play that way. Hes a very good player who was the best dlineman on the field yesterday. He blew up everything in front of him including double teams.
Well the guy just ran himself ragged all over a really good defense, I think that's plenty good enough reason to smiling and taking some time getting up.
I thought the part of Cam going up into the stands before the clock melted away was unsportsmanlike, but again, it didn't affect the outcome, and Chizik was classy in taking a knee because they definitely could've scored again. Tuberville probably would've. Cam is a bit narcissistic, but if we didn't want him to be, we could've done a better job of stopping him. On Fairley, yes, there were 3 times I can think of where he could've been flagged for unnecessary roughness, including picking JJ up well after his forward progress was stopped and body slamming him. That truly could have injured JJ. However, for the way that some games at AU have been officiated, I was pretty pleased with the refs letting the teams play ball yesterday without making themselves part of the game.
I didn't see Fairley's play as anything other than tough football. I don't think he was dirty or did anything wrong that should have been flagged. Some of us get sensitive when we get our butts kicked. If even one of our interior linemen would have blocked him even once it wouldn't be an issue anyway. They got dominated inside. It's amazing that I was one if the few if not only LSU fans that would admit that Peterson's vicious hit against the Arky receiver last year was both illegal and a cheap shot and nobody else agreed. Everyone said it was just good hard football. In the NFL he'd be flagged, fined, and suspended. But everyone thinks Fairley is dirty. He didn't do anything Nevis, Dorsey, or any other D lineman didn't/doesn't do. He played to the whistle and hit hard. He didn't take head shots or hit late.
' wow i had to respond to this one ......... i have a question ..... before the game dont you think it was a bit of a mockery being on the field and doing their little sway pump stuff is a bit much !! you wont see AUBURN do that at your field ........ it is called R E S P E C T for the home team as a matter of fact ........ even BAMA DOESNT EVEN DO THAT STUFF........ as for MR GODLINESS his name is CAM NEWTON and he plays for THE AUBURN TIGERS WAR DAMN EAGLE..........
