Why would you call that a "fatal flaw"? I believe that to be a great trait of his. It doesn't mean that it will always lead to the best immediate outcome for what you may concerned about, but it is certainly the "right" way to treat human beings who have families and need to support their families. Would you rather go to work for someone that you knew cared about your well being, or someone who looked at you as a means to an end? Easy decision for me, personally, and that should help out in the long run to attract a quality replacement.
Sometimes you have to fish. Sometimes, you have to cut bait. Right now, he needs to cut bait. I have never been a Miles fan, :crystal: or not. Dinardo brought back the magic, only to have it fizzle out in a couple of seasons. I was never sold on Miles as our coach, and I am still not there. Last season, the magic was back. I am not saying it is fizzling, given the comedy of errors that contributed to this season, but it is one man's responsibility to maintain the status quo. I am not hating on Miles. Just not a fan of his management system (That is not a personal attack, that is an attack on his system). I support my team, and my program. I went to games during the Mike Archer, Curly Hallman, Gerry Dinardo eras. I have seen the bottom, when a place at the bottom of the Top 25 was a major accomplishment. I don't want to return there because a man is excessively principled. In short, Les Miles is to Michael Scott as the LSU FB program is to Dunder-Mifflin. We have Dwight and Andy running the defense. You love the guys, but you really need to send them on their way. But you just can't do it because you are a big softy.
Les has already stated that problems will be addressed before the bowl game. Give him a break, conference championship games haven't even been played yet. Les is unlikely to announce anything until he has an agreement in place with a new coach and that takes time. Trust me, all of the potential candidate know that the LSU job is going to be available and they want to consider it along with their other offers before making a career decision. Les also wants time to consider the candidates. He can't afford to make a mistake here and he knows it. I expect we'll know something about all the coaching replacements within 2 weeks. Be patient. And it is NOT a foregone conclusion that LSU is going to be "killed" in our bowl game.
If we get GT, and we go into that bowl game with our current scheme, with no changes made lead by Dumb & Dumber... we will get killed. And we finish the entire season 1 game above .500.
Always, where LSU football is concerned. I sat through 8 losing seasons in the 1990's. I'm just not going to get suicidal and fatalistic over a winning season when we've earned two of the last five crystal footballs. Did you think we were going to win 11 games a year forever?
CLM SHOULD help these guys finds new jobs. These coaches helped him win a NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP. CLM is NOT the kind of coach that will up and leave us for Michigan. He's NOT the kind of coach that will throw his assistants, or players under the bus. He probably doesn't lie to recruits about playing time or anything else. CLM is the kind of coach that loves this program, is loyal to us, his players and his coaches. And he's the type of coach that (so far) 3 out of 4 years he's led us to 11 wins or more. We all should appreciate Miles, respect Miles, and be grateful that he's our coach. We've got the right Head Coach! :crystal::geaux::crystal::geaux::crystal:
is it a fatal flaw if it helps GET the right dc this time? whoever it is knowing they wont be thrown under the bus? edit: should have read the rest of the thread first. good points already made.
P&G.... Fully agree with your comments. We have a coach with integrity, loyalty and class. While it might not be the most popular thing with the public, Les always appears to try to do the right thing. Many negative comments are levied on CLM about his style on the sidelines. Many want to see him react like a previous coach who shall remain unnamed. CLM's demeanor on the sidelines reflects what I was told by an old baseball coach many years ago..."You coach at practice but you manage during the game." I am sure that CLM is making mental notes of places where "coaching will be required during the next practice".
I sat through those seasons as well, but I do not view this as a winning season. LSU was 3-5 in SEC games, the games that count. This is a losing season. Against Div 1A we are 6-5. The 3 other out of conference games - 2 against complete patsy teams and 1 against the sun belt team (which required the greatest comeback in history). Teams with losing conference records should not be allowed to play in bowl games.
