This was written in the NO Times... if true... the language of this article does not sound or bode well for LSU.
If Miles wasn't actively looking for a DC he would have squashed the rumors by now. With all the coaches saying that they have been contacted and going on record as saying they are interested in the job Miles would have shot the rumors down if they were untrue or if he was still undecided on if he was going to make a move or not.
Actively looking is not the same as hiring or negotiating with one. And chances are we won't even be in that phase until after we get killed in our bowl game, under the co-DC monster.
Dude, and everyone else, have some patience. Quick fixes are usually not good long term solutions. There WILL be a new DC. I would want and expect CLM to be thorough and diligent in his search, and not react irrationally to the situation. I would also hope the LSU athletic dept then negotiates intelligently and not out of desperation just to get someone in here to please the public. To do all of this properly often takes a little time, and oh by the way, he has to visit recruits, talk with bowl officials, visit his family occasionally, etc. Give him a little time and we will all be satisfied in the end.
Great Post! Everyone, listen to this post. You don't want to talk to just one guy, you want to talk to several. Some may not want to move to BR, or their wives don't. The guy you want the most may need a week to make up his mind, or he may want to look at another option before he takes your offer, to ensure he's doing the right thing for him and his family. How long does it take you to make your job decisions? It'll take a few weeks, give it a little time.
My guess is that we're seeing a coaching shift vice outright firing. Peveto hired away as a head coach. Mallory moves back to position coach. Lane hired away to South Florida, etc. Miles seems like the kind of guy who would help his loyal coaches vice hose them. Other high quality coaches are likely to want to work for a boss like that.
Very good points. The last two posts show how complicated the variables are and why decisions shouldn't, and typically can't be, made in haste. Of course, these things have to be balanced with the pressures of the DCs availability and not being hired away by someone else, but that is where communication comes into play.
Miles is actively seeking employment for Mallory and Peveto. That is why he hasn't fired them. Its the Miles way, like it or not, and he can't stand firing people, or hurting their feelings, or both. Its one of his fatal flaws. LSU will have a new DC. Let's all pray that the new coach is Muschamp-esque, a younger, firey, coach with a system that works. We don't need any paw-paws around here.
At least 4 coaches have been contacted unofficially by LSU regarding the coaching situation. What more evidence do you want that changes will be made?
I wouldn't read too deeply into that. I would expect things are going on behind the scenes we won't hear about till the right time. We still have one more game to play and a stellar recruiting class to keep intact. Leaking too much information to the media could jeopardize both.
