in a phone conversation. basically the defensive coaching changes, namely corey raymond, left him (jj) uncomfortable. hes been knowing quite some time but his dad didnt want him to tell anyone because it would open up the floodgates and every school would be contacting him. and the other thing is location. sounds like the real reason is his dad wanted him out of state far from the troubled area he grew up. plus hes closer to daddy at miami-oh. his dad sounded like a prick actually. the entire conversation made little sense. he did say les screwed benton so JJ needed to do what was best for himself and not LSU. mike s made the mistake of asking guidry what will happen when he (LG) comes back to the state for employment.:lol: pretty lame question but it set him off. oh and LG took a shot at ron cooper saying he rode the coattails of another coach who was hired by lou holtz. he got real defensive because mike pointed out that UT's def back coach is from north dakota st , then LG went on a rant about it not mattering where you coach.:lol:
Thank you Lance for all your valuable insight into the seedy world of recruiting and college football. Hope you enjoyed your flight. Unfortunately, I must inform you that your 15 minutes of fame are now up. You can fade away into Bolivia. Please fly with us again.
I gotta feel bad for the kid, he is already starting out his adult life making horrible decisions. I mean he had a ticket on a jet airliner to paradise, but chose the ticket for the freight train to hell.
a previous interview (dont have the link) said that he knew for weeks that he would be going to tenn, that it was the place for him. the benton thing didnt happen till the day before nsd. what a crock of excuses. :rolleye33:
Thanks for the info, tirk... It makes zero sense though. If you know you want TN and don't want schools to open back up why not let the LSU staff know? Let them make headway with other recruits? It is fine if you want to go elsewhere, but it is another to leave a school hanging after going on and on about how you're such a man of your word, etc..
that was simply his dad saying they screwed DB, so its ok to screw them, err do whats best for you. there seemed to be a grudge against LSU in his tone which makes me think he swayed JJ toward UT. Maybe LSU didnt offer him a gig that he somewhat expected for his son's signature. the bitterness about ron cooper is what makes me think this may have some validity.
because in other school's eyes he was a lock for LSU. so they feel they have a shot at him if he changes within the last 2 weeks. which is true but a rather weak argument. im of the belief his dad didnt want him here and stuck it to us via his son.
Good thread tirk. Dad obviously played a big part in JJ decision. I take it 1. Dad wanted job at LSU and didn't get offer 2. Dad friends with Orgeron 3. Dad moving to Ohio, Tenn. closer to Ohio than La. is. It happens. Hate to miss a good La. player, but for a bunch of reasons this didn't work out. I wish the kid well, except against LSU. We'll survive. Can't win em all. They had some reasonable personal reasons not to come here, better than because they didn't like the program. If his dad stayed in La., JJ is at LSU, IMO.
Yeah I totally see what you're saying, but the kid's dad is a coach, so you'd think he wouldn't leave other coaches hanging out to dry and also would understand the recruiting process. Just don't answer the phone and give LSU a shot to land another recruit if you have any decency. The bottom line is Guidry often spoke of his son wanting to honor his word and that he was all LSU up to and including NSD.. he was dishonest. Bottom line.
