Woman arrested at Baton Rouge movie theater after threatening to ‘shoot somebody’

    Advocate staff report

    July 26, 2015

Gaynell Haydel, 27, was arrested and accused of repeatedly saying she was going to shoot someone at a movie theater in Baton Rouge Saturday.
A woman was arrested Saturday at a Baton Rouge Cinemark movie theater after she repeatedly said, “I’m going to shoot somebody,” just days after a mass shooting at The Grand 16 Theatre in Lafayette left two people dead and nine others wounded.

Management at the Perkins Rowe theater notified authorities after Gaynell Haydel, 27, walked up to the ticket booth inside the theater and said repeatedly that she was going to shoot someone, according to an East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff’s Office report.

Haydel was unprovoked, deputies said in the report, and her threats made moviegoers and employees fear for their safety with some even leaving the theater.

When a deputy arrived, he told Haydel she had to leave the theater because of the statements she made, and she said, “I don’t have a gun on me,” according to the report.

She agreed to walk out of the theater, but once outside, refused to give the deputy her identification, the report says.

The deputy told Haydel she would be arrested if she didn’t identify herself, and she replied, “You do what you need to do.” When the deputy tried to place her in handcuffs, she turned toward him, stood chest-to-chest with him and said, “Devil Dog, you better stand down,” the report says.

Haydel then began to push the deputy, according to the report, so he “performed an arm-bar take down,” bringing her to the ground and placing her under arrest at about 9:50 p.m.

When the deputy questioned Haydel, she could not give him a reason for her actions, according to the report. She did tell him she was not on any medications, the report says.

Haydel, of 16611 Abshire Ave., Baton Rouge, was taken to Parish Prison and booked on counts of terrorizing, disturbing the peace and resisting an officer.

@tirk is also correct and I eluded to that when we has this discussion after the S. Carolina shooting. It can't be fixed without giving up something along the way.

thats just not true. im not for more gun laws on able bodied citizens, but more laws to track mentally ill people are needed.

The problem is, it is a lot easier to attempt to track guns, than to track the mentally ill. The easy way out is seldom the best or correct way. Learned that in statistical process control!

So, a mentally ill person that now has big brother on his back regardless of if he/she has done anything wrong hasn't lost something?

if they are a danger to themselves or society, i dont care what the lose. they shouldnt have the ability to buy a gun, but all to often, they can.
