He is violating the third law of martinian logic -- he's not minding his own friggin' business.

You and he ignore The law of unintended consequences. If martin burns a Koran and incites random violence against me, I stop that chit by coming after martin.

what if people hate cheetos and my eating them starts them violently after red? cant we learn to blame the violent folks?

what if american friendship with israel sets off osama bin laden and he blows up the wtc? we should stop being friend with israel, give him what he wants.

very important to correctly lay the blame. the violent person is to blame, always.

Oh? Charles Manson never was violent and never killed anybody himself. But he incited others to kill. Those who throw gasoline on a fire share the blame with the fire when someone gets burned.

there is a difference between charles manson saying "ok go to the ranch and tear a woman to bits with knives" or whatever, and expressing disagreement with a philosophy through a symbolic act that hurts no one.

it is well within our rights as humans to express our opinions by burning things, like flags, or effigies or whatever. we should never give up to these scoundrels that would get violent over such nonsense.

do you blame salman rushdie for the death threats against him for writing his book?

This is a good point, but going back to the original post, what are the pastor's intentions in burning the Koran? Seems like he is consciously trying to incite violence.

There is a difference between Salman Rushdie who was writing a piece of fiction and a self-proclaimed holy man purposefully inciting muslims to gain publicity for his extremist church.

both salman rusdhie and this guy are protesting islam. they are not hurting anyone, they are not using weapons or violence. they are both expressing a viewpoint. it does not justify violence in any way. and to blame either of them is ridiculous. the extremists to do not dictate what is acceptable by killing people.

was theo van gogh wrong to make an anti muslim film? what if the film was explicitly meant to be provocative? thats too much for your delicate sensibilities and you think violence is ok or somehow not entirely the fault of the people who are violent?

so what if he is? he is well within his rights. we cant tell people they cant express opinions because others will get violent. thats how you encourage violence.
