LA high schooler in the Super Bowl

    Pretty cool but not well-publicized....one of the ways the NFL is promoting the 50th Super Bowl is to present a gold football to every high school that has ever produced a Super Bowl player or head coach. Franklin HS down here got its football today; Leonard Marshall made the presentation himself. Here's LA's list, with first team only if they played for more than 2 Super Bowl teams:

    Roy Winston and Billy Cannon both went to Istrouma HS, not Capitol

    That's what I thought too. This came from an NFL database, and there are obviously some errors.

    Istrouma was closed a couple of years ago but I saw that it was going to reopen as some kind of charter school or something like that. At the time Cannon and Winston played Capitol High was an all black school. There are probably quite a few schools attended by players who were in early Superbowls that have closed.

    I saw Doug Williams listed as having played for Northeast HS. I didn't think he had and I found out he went to Cheneyville High School.

    Right, Cheneyville is now Northeast. There were a couple of others like that, where the school has had a name change since a certain player was there, and they listed it by the current school name. Landry-Walker is another.

    Cheneyville is about as Podunk as it gets. Some of those kids moved to Bunkie too.

    There are 2 Cheneyvilles. The other one is spelled Chaneyville. Doug Williams Cheneyville is in East Baton Rouge Parish. Not quite sure where the other one is but it could be near Bunkie
