Not necessarily. He's actually been pretty accurate this year, but there is a contingent at TD who seem determined to prove he lacks cred. Belowpar first posted that it was his best 'guess' that CLM was going to replace Crowton, and said that Kragthorpe had been informally contacted. Not long after, he said that nothing had been decided and that it the buy out might be an issue, but his impression was that CLM wanted a change. He always maintained that CLM was seriously considering replacing him, but also said that circumstances could change for a variety of reasons...buy out, not being able to pay who we wanted what they wanted, no viable replacement (one reason Malleveto was hired...CLM interviewed others including Tenuta, but didn't like any of them, and wanting defensive continuity made the decision to promote the two headed beast). He stated that Tolbert had been hired the weekend before news broke, and by all accounts, Tolbert DID agree to come here, but then backed off due to concerns about salary. Belowpar then said, just as the Chavis to UG rumors were dying out, that he might actually go...thus creating a firestorm of TD posters claiming that his cred had taken a hit. And lo and behold, word leaked that we had to give Chavis a raise to keep him here and that there had been serious contact between Chavis and UG leading up to the bowl game. The entire situation is one in flux. Coaches are 'informally' interviewed, they agree in principle to a job (Orgeron last year, for example) and then change their minds soon thereafter. Decisions to hire or fire coaches evolve over time, as we've seen in the past. Belowpar has always said that he offers information that he has at the moment, and that situations change in the coaching profession. But because he says one thing (such as the rumors that Chavis might leave have legs) and the situation changes soon after (Chavis tells players he's not going anywhere), some TD posters view it as his lacking cred...despite his original statement ultimately proving to have happened (we had to give Chavis a raise to keep him from going to UG). The dude hasn't posted lately, probably because he's tired of getting flak for posting what he knows. He's posted solid stuff this year, from what I've seen of it, but his detractors are very vocal. That said, the Kragthorpe thing happened a while back. I'd be surprised to see him here, even if Crowton leaves. It doesn't seem like the discussion he had with CLM went anywhere.
It's been Miles' MO to help his assistants find other jobs rather than fire them outright. There are openings in the NFL for Off. Coordinators but I haven't heard Crowton's name mentioned. I've read and heard where Weis is likely going to Kansas City and Bates possibly leaving USC for Chicago but nothing about Crowton. Kragthorpe for Crowton - that's certainly interesting. I still believe LSU's offensive woes starts with the offensive line, which is the worst line I can remember in recent LSU history.
The precursor to that is he lost a tremendous amount of talent from that team and didn't recoup much to make that ship go. So maybe as a head coach, he's not a very good recruiting chip. I don't know. He was pretty good his first year when they were talking title contention in Louisville with Brohm, Urrutia, Michael Bush, and co. After those guys left it went in the ****ter never to be seen again.
He was at Boston College but under Dan Henning and that was back in 1996. Went to A&M under Slocum in 1997. 2001-02 he was the Buffalo Bills before going to Tulsa and eventually Louisville.
