You guys are going to start complaining about running the football when we were 13-1 last year while running the ball 65% of the time? Folks we need to realize that Bama won it all with nearly the same philsophy. The difference was they had the best defense the SEC has seen in the last 25 years. The NFL draft revealed how much talent Bama had on defense. They are not nearly as good this year. But how could they be with the loses they incurred. I will say that we need to utilize the play action pass more often to keep the pass rush off balance. It all comes down to OL play for us.
try again, Alabama 2009-60/40, 2011-59/41, LSU 2008-2011, run% 53, 52, 61, 68 >> We are getting further and further away from balanced. LSU 2012 64% run currently.
Partially, but I also think that it is beyond personnel and play of said personnel. I am just saying that Miles' game day decisions are adversely affecting this ballclub. Granted we had a slick ball, a passive rain sogged crowd, and FCS opponent to create a very uninspired atmosphere. I don't want to make glaring generalizations on this game for sure. Let's see what transpires at 2:30pm in the Swamp on Saturday. That will tells us what we need to know for the rest of the season.
Alabama won the NC against us because instead of running the football on first down and often as they customarily do, they trained AJ to pass first and catch the LSU defense off-guard. Trent was almost an after-thought as the BCS Title Game wound down to a close. Why? Because the Alabama coaches knew they needed to throw the ball effectively against LSU in order to win. How best to do that? Pass on LSU when they least expect it and become as proficient in that as possible leading up to the game. So they worked extensively on preparing McCarron to throw early and throw often on first down and it worked. LSU lost. Yes, you need to feed the monster in that you go with what brought you to the dance, but you also need to understand strategy and use what is best available to you in order to win. If we need to throw effectively to win games which inevitably we will need to do, then let's at least do it on our own terms in situations we've prepared our QB for so he's most comfortable and thus has the most likelihood to succeed.
No doubt about it. What you say is certainly accurate. Don't know if that is what we are doing? If so, we need to get better at preparation. Injuries haven't helped. LSUDane points out that in the end, Metts stats were good, but we did not look good getting there.
LSU is throwing the ball more. Its the fact the passes or nearly always either a bubble screen, quick slant, curl, etc. The routes WRs run are rarely past 10-15 yards. The D doesnt have to fear the deep pass. LSU has to take chances going down the field. Thats the only way to keep the D more honest. If not they will continue to stack 8 and 9 man fronts.
When is LSU blowing guys off the ball? Yes on defense, but on offense? What LSU team have you been watching? Not the one who was getting tormented by Townsons defense last night obviously. We have serious issues
