I looked it up, and Hatch did indeed play in the Alabama game, it's the only other game he played in besides the Middle Tennessee State game. However, Hatch had no rushing or passing attempts during the Alabama game... I assume he just went in there and handed the ball off a couple times?
I don't remember the plays exactly. Flynn got hit and went to the sideline, and RP was suspended for that game, so it was in with Hatch. He looked real uncomfortable, and Flynn came in, my memory says 2 plays (but if you said 1 or 3, I won't argue).
I think some of you are making much to do about nothing. I would see being concerned if you had problems at OL, RB, TE and/or WR. But none of these are the case. Your OL (from most accounts on here) is going to be a strength of the team. The RB position will be another strength and the TE position should be above par as well. I don't know enough about the WR position but I don't think it's going to be a weakness. Who ever the qb is will probably not be given the keys to the cadillac for the first four to five games. I would expect Miles and staff to put the load on the OL, RB's and a short passing game to tote the load early on to give the qb some time to get used to the speed of the game, being in the game when it means something and working just getting a feel of everything.
Correct. And I think, happily, Tiger fans have become accustomed to highly successful seasons, so the anxiety of a QB question causes some concern that maybe wouldn't have been as acute seven or eight years ago. But let's not kid ourselves. The road to Auburn is straight but it's narrow and there are hazards. Appy State, Troy and North Texas don't have the same level of talent, but they will be ready to pounce on the Tigers given the chance. A very poor outing at QB in any of those games (fumbled snaps, interceptions, poor completion percentages, leading to completely predictable play calling) will make an upset in the first three games COMPLETELY possible. Add to that a secondary and LB corps that is rebuilding, and there's a chance for a lesser team with a QB that DOES play well to make life difficult. I don't see it, nor do I predict it. But I think the concern is not only justified, it shows some awareness and non-homerism. Much to do, not for nothing... Besides - there's four days until the next baseball victory (#21 in a row! :tigbas, so what else do we have to do? :geaux:
you guys are forcing me to dig into this one deeper. I don't remember Hatch playiong at all in that game. The play by play from 3 different websites confirm that Flynn didn't miss a single snap when he went down. LSU called a time-out, and the very nexy play was Flynn on a QB draw. I have the game DVR'd, so I will watch it this evening to see. My guess is that Hatch is listed on the "participation report" because he is the guy on the field that called the timeout. But the ball was never snapped, so he didn't really play. Will update sometime tonight after watching the game.
Nooch, Tell me if Chad Jones still looks good recovering JPW fumble at the end of the game! I bet he still does!
The OL will be the #1 unit in the SEC. The WR, TE, RB units will each be #2 or #3. But LSU quarterbacks will start the season ranked at #12. That is a concern.
This is from my drunken memory: Flynn was shaken up and went to the sideline. Hatch came in and after he and the team broke the huddle and were walking towards the line Miles called a timeout so Flynn didn't have to miss a play.
