How many games did Matt Flynn start before last year? Ummmm, I think it is one. Lee is a very talented QB. Let's see what happens. No question with RP at QB we are probably one of the top 3 teams in the country. You just never know.

I'd say we are going 9-3 or 10-2 this year. With RP we would have probably gone 11-1 or 10-2.

haha Matt Flynn was a 5th year senior and had experience in MANY games. He split time with JR for a while. He won MVP for that Peach bowl against MIAMI as well... That's not a very good comparison.

I think we will see lots of inconsistencies and many will be calling for CLM to put in the guy on the bench. When its all said and done, I don't see us losing more than 4 games (worst case scenario)
at Auburn (sep. 20, the true test for whoever the QB is)
    at Florida
    at USC
    Georgia
Alabama (We will most likely have the best QB on the field this game)

If we can take 3 of these games, I think we will have a great shot at defending the SEC Championship.

That's the thing about a new, young QB next season - he could in theory have a Sam Bradford year, or he could have a Jimmy Clausen year (knocking on wood, salt over shoulder, rubbing my lucky....thing...).

Good news is neither QB is new to the system.

Hell, we could have easily lost 4 games LAST season (take your pick of Auburn, Alabama, Florida, even the SEC CG). So, while I doubt we lose 4 next year, it is CLEARLY possible given the road schedule.

We'll know a LOT more by the time we get to Auburn (blinding flash of the obvious there, I guess )

I just watched the short clip of the spring game on Scout. If Hatch can keep making some of the throws he made in that clip we'll be ok. Didn't show much of Lee. Maybe that's an indication of his performance. Appy St, Troy and North Texas to start is just what we needed. Brilliant scheduling.

You know, I keep seeing this mentioned, but in all honesty, aside from holding for extra points and field goals and one great performance handing the ball off to Addai in the Peach Bowl, Matt Flynn had extremely limited game experience. Yes, he'd been in the program for a long time, but in fact, last year he was working with a new offense--so the amount of time in the program was a bit nullified there.

As I've seen on other posts, we need a game manager this year. A superstar (RP) would've been great, but we don't necessarily need great; we need a smart guy/guys who make good decisions (on and off the field.)

A fifth year senior is a lot more mature than a second year freshman. And any limited experience is a lot better than none.

Four years of college coaching can only help - even if it is a new system the next year.

That being said, it comes down to talent & decision-making not these other factors.

I agree with the maturity factor, but in some cases, I think too much is being made of it in a game where guys play for 3, 4, or 5 years. At all times, there are going to be young guys on the field.

I just hope our young guys this year have a better rookie outing than Mr. Stafford did at UGA. Note, however, that I'm still not a big believer in this guy--and I've seen him since he played at Highland Park HS here in Dallas.

I totally understand and agree with your point here, but Flynn is gone...and was NEVER gonna be the LSU QB this coming season. Perrilloux was, and now it's between Hatch and Lee. Compare the maturity of the two that are now competing for the job vs. the one that just lost it...and I say we're doing pretty good.

I'm not bashing Perrilloux here...I'm over it. But maturity IS a factor...and don't give me the crap about off the field being different from on the field, in relation to maturity and leadership. I've heard that argument, and it has been proven incorrect in this case.

Is Andrew Hatch on scholarship or is he a walkon?
