First post, here. A top kicker/punter I know has received several letters from LSU and is considering coming to camp in July. He has never been to Louisiana, and is from a fairly large city. He's not sure what to expect. What would you tell a kid who's never been to the area to encourage him to take a good look? In other words, what would you say to a kid who has no idea about the school, other than you have a great football team? What are the best things about LSU? If he comes to visit this summer, what should he be sure to see? I know his family is planning a side trip to New Orleans, but what's around Baton Rouge if you only had a couple hours of free time to get a quick snapshot of what's really cool if you are a student there? Is there a favorite place to eat or hangout that you'd send a recruit on a short visit? Thanks for any tips you have. I'll pass along anything useful to make the trip a good one for this kid.
I don't have time to post but can we get a ruling on whether or not sending info like this to a recruit is a violation?
It's not a violation. He's not even here reading and doesn't know I posted. The camp isn't until July 26, so if you think of anything interesting, lemme know. There are official tourism sites, but I figured folks from LSU might have a few fun things to suggest. Oh, he's 17, so keep that in mind when you are thinking of fun.
There are rules about this but not sure what they are exactly. If he is going to attend the camp and stay a few days, he will be shown around by other campers from the area and current commits who have gone through the same thing not knowing much about the area.
Any progress on our current punters? Their performance during spring game sucked and if anyone who "Shows Up" punting better the 15 yards average gotta good chance of being a Tiger.
I read this yesterday. Pretty hard to find information on the punting game this time of year so I take what I can get. http://www.bayoubengalblog.com/
Well, if you think of anything, just post it. I don't see how it can be a recruiting violation to post anonymously tips on your favorite eateries or local sights, but ... do what you think is right. Thanks for the punter info, btw. The kid who is coming to camp is in the National Honor Society, fwiw.
Tell him to go to the Chimes and eat some gumbo. It's my favorite thing to do around campus. Try the alligator too.
I think the best thing about LSU is the culture & the atmosphere. It will be tough for him to get a feel for that coming in summer though. Campus and the surrounding areas are relatively dead during summer as opposed to the fall/spring. There are several decent bars, but they are spread out and there is no main street of bars or anything like in Austin or New Orleans. There are a lot of good places to eat - Chimes, Walk-On's, TJ Ribs, Mike Andersons, etc. For more "college food", I'd have to suggest Am Mart.
