I would reverse this. 2. Throw the ball effectively. Make them spread the field for Shep, Holliday, Scott, Jefferson, Williams and Ridley to occassionally run through. We won't be able to run effectively otherwise. But I like 1 and 3 a lot.
All of the above, but the main thing is we have to play to WIN. We can't play not to lose. Florida taught us a lesson we should have learned at Auburn a few years ago. We have to use every ounce of talent we have to win this game, and I'm not just talking about the players. Players and coaches alike must step up and dig deep for us to win this game. What we need this week is a TOTAL effort.:LSU231:
Mallet plays for R-kansas. As for Jabba, they will just roll out the oxygen and bacon cart and get his motor running again:hihi:
Why won't Bama be able to run all game long on defense? I realize Mt. Cody is getting bigger than life, but he is out of there in obvious passing situations. Chapman is a 300 lb. plus beast, and when cody is out, he is moving that pocket along with Darius and anders. Bama's second defensive unit luther Davis, Kerry Murphy, and a host of others play and play a lot. The success LSU has in this game will be accomplished against talent and depth. I know it was just a slight, but worry about Mallet in a few weeks. G-Mac will be just fine.
Tusk is correct. You won't see Cody chasing anyone on third and long. Chapman is his replacement then and there're several guys who come in on those downs...
Only I'm not talking just about obvious passing downs, see above. I'm talking about running an offense that gives LSU the best chance to score points. We all know it won't happen with power running. Our OL is too undersized and we don't have a really good blocking FB. So you take away one element of your opponent's game and force them to be one-dimensional. Given that our strength is in our WR/TEs, spread out the defense, make Bama beat them with speed, and use Jefferson's feet to move the pocket and minimize the effectiveness of the Bama DL. I'd definitely look for Shepard in the backfield to give the Bama front 7 a lot of different looks to worry about.
One thing we know about Saban defenses is the fact that he likes to blitz and play tight man coverage. So I'll be looking for JJ to roll out often with a run/pass threat.. with the CB's on man coverage they will be running down the filed with the receivers with their back to the line of scrimmage and should allow JJ to run for good yardage. We should exploit this. Also, JJ when he passes has to take some chances. I doubt that we'll see our receivers running down the field wide open. If JJ waits around in the pocket to find that, Bama will rack up the sacks. He needs to get rid of the ball and trust the receivers to make plays. We should get some pass interference calls going our way but we won't have that chance unless we take some chances. I remember when Saban was at LSU- our CB's would be called often for PI because of how aggressive Saban coached them to cover. However, our receivers need to come to play and fight for the ball. Either way, should be an interesting match up of coaches and I hope CLM out coaches Saban.
pretty easy. have to have big/long plays and take advantage of it in the red zone. lafell and tt are going to have to make big plays - after the catch, in the air, whatever it takes. 14 play drives prob wont happen.
One thing we know about Saban defenses is that he likes to disguise coverages and confuse quarterbacks. Jefferson is still easily confused.
