He's been an outstanding recruiting coordinator, the unbalanced classes aren't on him. The individual recruiters have to convince players to come, plus the head coach and coordinators set the numbers at each position, not Wilson.
You expect Steele to run Chavis' system? Why would he do that? Also, no it didn't. We got killed on the run up the middle pretty much the entire time Chavis was here, particularly late in games. We also played a freaking ridiculous version of the prevent defense that allowed way too many teams to come back late in games. I was never more worried about being up with 2 minutes left to go in a game in my life than during Chavis' tenure at LSU. I'm not a big 3-4 guy, but it can work provided we get some very big and powerful guys on D-line and then have the LB's to run it. Right now we don't have either of those.
Hey guys, Clemson fan here. You really need to get rid of Steele to have a chance of being great again. Remember that Orange Bowl fiasco at Clemson? (WVA just scored again)? That was Steele's last game. He was responsible for some of the worst defenses we've ever seen. When he left, most of us said there's no way this guy will be a DC at a major school again. Gets a job at Bama the next year, and year after that DC at LSU. The last two games aren't an aberration for Steele, that will become the norm if changes aren't made.
No one in Baton Rouge or Tiger Nation was happy with the hire. The only reason no one complained a lot was because Orgeron was hired too and helped the medicine go down.
He is a really good recruiter and apparently that's all LSU does, recruit the lights out and forget you actually have to play football.
I'll give him that. He does get some great recruits, he picked up Vic Beasley, Coty Sensabaugh, Grady Jarrett and others, but he's piss-poor at player development.
