I just can't be too hard on Steele. Chubba bubba the chief and his DL had been mailing it in. It was widely recognized our D would struggle this year, so I'm pleasantly surprised anytime they get a stop (it's sad LSU d has come to this...). Much more disappointed in our offense, which fields a lot of talent but continues to look like shit.
Technically we still have a two headed monster. It's just at the Head Coach and Defensive Cordinator. Heck, we might even have a 3 headed monster if you count STs.
Again, fair points, and I really don't have a good counter to that. What I will say is that our defensive line averages 37 lbs. less than Bama's D line per man, and roughly the same compared to their O line. Our LB's are way smaller as well. Our defensive line averages 50 lbs. less per man than Arkansas' O line. It is not remotely surprising to me that we can't stop the run while Bama can. We are way too light in the ass. And in the SEC, if you can't stop the run, you are screwed. We also can't get a pass rush except for around the edge, and that gives the QB plenty of time to step up into the pocket and get a dump down pass off. Don't get me wrong, I wasn't enamored Steele's hiring (I thought we could and should have done better). I'm just not ready to blame it all on him, particularly with what I noted earlier, and Les' offense stinking the place up. I thought the D played as well as we could have expected them to last week against Bama. The offensive game plan and execution screwed them big time, but early in the game they played their asses off. This week, the entire team sucked.
4 if you include the monstrosity that is Cam Cameron. Dude is as worthless as Miles, and he's been here for a few years.
You make valid points as well. I agree with a lot of what you're saying about LSU lacking some size on the DL. I also agree that it is impossible to be a great D when you're O can't sustain a drive. The D is getting wore out. Again, I can't turn a blind eye to the fact Steele shows zero adjustments. You have to change things up. Just like with the O, Miles has to realize we have to pass. As a whole the team needs a lot of coaching. From a players point of view someone has to step up to hold players accountable within the locker room.
You mean the same guy who gave up 70 points in a bowl game as a defensive coordinator? Thats our defensive coordinator... surely not
Kevin Steele isn't a good defensive coordinator either. He isn't at Alabama or Clemson anymore because he isn't any good at being head of anything. He was head coach at Baylor and went 1-31 in the Big 12 in four years. The dude can't coach. (Recruit yes )
I don't see all that much talent in our secondary. I don't see all that much talent anywhere on our defense. Over the last 3 years, we have lost the equivalent of an entire recruiting class to early entry, transfers, ineligibility, etc, mostly on the defense side of the ball.
