I posted in the thread on ZL that the Advocate is reporting that he is in BR. Here's some more info on him: "He's still learning how to pitch," Thomas said. "What's going to happen when you add 20 pounds to him and he really learns how to pitch? I mean does he go 105 (mph)? "I've been scouting for 10 years and seen all kinds of arms and never have I seen someone like Kevin with the ability that he has to do it so easily on a consistent basis." Thomas said he could see Gausman's decision to turn pro or attend LSU go either way. "I don't think Kevin has an issue going to school," he said. "I think it's going to be either way for him. "He's going to be that Strasburg-type of arm, either now or in two years," he added, alluding to once-in-a-generation talent Stephen Strasburg of the Washington Nationals. "Someone's going to come out and give (Gausman) what he wants (in terms of money), and I can't argue with him. One hundred miles per hour is 100 miles per hour." Gausman impressive in summer league; still unsigned by Dodgers - The Denver Post Appears that the upside is huge here. Lets hope the Dodgers don't wake up today and make him too good of an offer.
well, though we REALLLLLY needed either lee or ranaudo to bolster our friday night slot, i think that we still came out OK with this gausman kid and ryan eades. eades is someone who i am extremely excited about. ryan was 5-0 with an 0.92 ERA and 48 strikeouts in 30.1 innings pitched against pretty solid competition before he went down with a torn labrum and didn't pitch the rest of his senior season. however, i'm not too confident in the way we have been developing pitchers. these guys all have a world of potential, yet....
Thats what being reported: Mainieri said Gausman would have been the first pick of one of the organizations if they thought they could sign him, but he turned the money down. He declined to name the organization. Gausman has been lighting it up in the summer leagues, hitting 100 miles-per-hour on the radar. "This kid is outstanding ... the sky is the limit for this guy," Maineiri said. "This kid has a chance to be Ranaudo-ish." LSU baseball: Mainieri excited about recruiting class | NOLA.com EDIT: Bhelm posted an article about this year's signing class. Mainieri states it as well: “Kevin Gausman is the main reason this is considered a special class. Hands down, he is one of the best pitchers in the country. Kevin has a tall, slender build and is very athletic for his size. He has a smooth and easy delivery with a fastball that usually sits in the low to mid 90s range. His fastball has been clocked up to 100 mph. Kevin will be a dominant figure on the mound for the next couple of years ... http://louisianastate.scout.com/2/993402.html
