I know the Derby is over eight weeks away, but it's never too early to start the hype. Who is your early pick to win the roses?

It's hard not to like War Pass, but if he continues to improve he'll be the favorite and won't give you much of a number. I'll throw out an early longshot, Elysium Fields. The trainer, Barcly Tagg has won the Derby before and I really liked the way he came back after being passed in the stretch in the Fountain of Youth Stakes. Although he finished second, I think he will continue to improve.

Of course we are eight weeks away and I'll probably change my mind at least 10 times

I guess there aren't alot (if any) horse racing fans on here, so I'll amuse myself. War Pass got beat badly in the Tamba Bay Derby so his favorite status just took a huge hit. Might work out for horse players if he can rebound. The way he looked in TB...I wouldn't count on it.

Actually I followed horse racing pretty well growing up. My best friends father had a lot to do with horses that raced. I can't remember what exactly he did (I have called my friend and asked but it is late). Bottom line is I have lost all knowledge of it since then.

I will say that I watch most of the races just because they are usually fun to watch and never take much out of your day.

Give me some info about the horses and I could keep this conversation going for you after talking to my friends dad of course!

OK -- how about the Florida Derby this weekend. Throw out the Favorite Big Brown. No horse has won from the 11th or 12th post position at 1 1/8 mile since the track was reconfigured to that length. Big Brown goes from the far outside.

We'll see if Elysium Fields can make me look like I know what I'm talking about or expose me

Youbet is a decent place to put your money down. My wife has done well over the years betting the Triple Crown races. I study and study, she watches the post parade and picks winners.
