Man you just have to want it. I chewed on cinnamon toothpicks as if I was part beaver, and until they tore my mouth up so bad the only thing I wanted in it was milk. Just have to keep telling yourself that you don't need it. Toothpicks have been very valuable to me but everyone is different. In the end it is all in how bad you want it. Good luck and hit me up and let me know how you are doing.
I have tried and failed for about 10 years. It is so difficult. I have been on Copenhagen since the 7th grade. Pouches for the last 10 years. Not so abrasive on the gums. My dentist doesn't help because everytime I go he tells me my gums are very healthy. Two different dentists have done the same. I want to quit desperately but there is always that LSU game on TV, or the round of golf. Or sadly I work from home when not traveling and I lip up all day. I know its horrible. I have read websites everything. Just need to nut up and do it. The constant need to spit, all the headache of it. I wouldn't miss it except for those rounds of golf or after a huge steak... This may motivate me to try again. I heard the first week is the worst. I have been reading this website http://www.killthecan.org/ For assistance.
@TexasTigers Yeah that is the hard part, it is sort of why they call it a habit. You don't really miss "it" but your mind is still convinced that you are supposed to be doing it. I played golf for the first time since and like I said, just went through a lot of toothpicks. The thing that really helps is all the money that stays in your wallet. Now I get to spend more on beer Bottom line is you can do it but only when you are ready. My wife, my dentist, my kids, they all put the full court press on me for years and while I knew I "should" quit, it just wasn't ready. I had made runs at it before, maybe last a day or so but always cave. After about day 4 it really starts to let up and you can build steam in the opposite direction.
It is a physical addiction. I successfully quit / 2002. My methods included remaining as isolated from crowds as humanly possible which reduced stress, avoid drinking, avoid placing oneself in places where the urge would became difficult to resist. It normally took 3 to six weeks but if I slipped quitting? The second time too quit is cruel.
I tried for 10 years to quit smoking, feel your pain. It took me getting walking pneumonia. I tried to smoke during it a few times, my coughs after smoking were so gross it made me gag. It was sort of an aversion therapy, I never had the urge to smoke again. At first I would get sick to the stomach when I smelt smoke, now I just hate it. Its been 6ish years now, stopped counting. I think any sort of nicotine patch, gum, those crack pipes don't work. As long as your still have nicotine you are going to slip to your favorite delivery device. Good luck
