https://footballscoop.com/news/sources-brian-kelly-targeting-brad-white-lsu-defensive-coordinator Kentucky had the #25 total defense this year, #45 last year, and #21 in 2019, White’s first year.
So here is where shit gets sticky this late in the game. Hopefully he can lock this down quickly because it can only go the wrong way if he doesn't. Like what about Deronte? If we know he knows. Does he wait around to be fired? I wouldn't.
Agree he needs to get it done quickly, and there are much worse hires he could make at that position. I guess Daronte probably has some amount of buyout, so it's probably better for him if he gets fired as opposed to quitting. Assuming teams aren't beating down the door to get him...
Don't understand wanting to keep Jones, when there are like 9 SEC DC's who have/had better Defenses this year. https://www.ncaa.com/stats/football/fbs/current/team/22/p2
We held our last 4 opponents well below their average, giving up 311 yards at most. Averaged 299 yards per game over that stretch. The defense was very good at the end of the year.
Holding teams below their average is a reason to keep a coach? I'd rather get a good DC who can teach tackling & scheme, as well as recruit & blitz every down. We lost 3 of our last 5 games. Is that good? 60% losing? 31-17 Ole Miss < This must change. 42-21 Kentucky < This should Never happen.
I agree. Having a hard time understanding Kelly's moves so far. Why is he so slow in picking coaches? Caution is one thing, sleeping on someone is a different problem. Seems like he really was not prepared with names of other good coaches when he got here. At least that's how it feels right now.
