I often talk about the right fit, I often talk about coaches thinking outside the box. It's not easy to move a family, I know. If Moma ain't happy, ain't no one happy. Les and Cam had to bend over backwards to get Grimes, the OL coach, he was at Va Tech for one year. Could have stayed there for more years. He had to go in to convince his wife and family that they were moving after one year, not because he was being fired, but was because he wanted to take a job in BTR. I have friends in the profession, some have moved a dozen times. But also like I said, this is a tight profession, has to be, you never know who you might be working with next year. That said, Les is here for a while, I often ask who you would replace him with? Look at some of the hires as of late, Strong at UT, that's who they had to settle with, one of the top jobs in the nation, an thats who they settled with. But UT also has the off the field problem, unless everyone is behind a coach, hard to make things work. Lucky, Les has the backing from within, may not have all the fans. I always talk about these being the Golden years at LSU, some have never seen the dark years at LSU.
I don't see it, but you never know. I know one thing is for sure if Miles leaves, Cam isn't staying. He either goes to Michigan with Miles as a package deal or back to the NFL. Remember he is only, well not only, but he is here as Miles friend. If Miles wasn't here he would never have stepped foot in Death Valley. That is not a knock on us, just not the circles he runs in. Will we be better without Miles? Depends on who his replacement is...and that list is short. I like what we have, but I'm not afraid to let him go if its an upgrade. I remember the 80's and 90's...it wasn't fun. Its pretty fun now even with Uncle Les causing me to destroy more of my liver. Coaching changes do not always go as seamless as it did with Saban and Miles. We could be stuck with 3 or 4, five and out coaches before we find the right fit. That could be another 15-20 years before we have this kind of CONSISTANT success. Stovall (1980) to Saban (1999) 19 years 124-99 won/loss record. Les Miles 10 years (99-25) won/loss record. I like these years better. Like I said I'll take an upgrade but the chances of find a few duds first is greater. We have won more SEC championships in the 15 years of Saban and Miles than the 19 years before. And we have 2 National Championships to boot.
I can give you a list of names that were once hot, but have cooled off. I can also give a list of names that are on the "Hot Seat."
Hell a couple years ago I was all about Mike Gundy but not anymore. Seems he has come down with a bad case of the "milsels" that is sort of like measles but it's when you act just like Les. Anyway there's that.
