After calling Tyrann Mathieu overrated for whatever reason, KC has now set his sights on the Nation's Top Secondaries.

It seems Mo Claiborne just wasn't the best last year, Thorpe Award & the NFL draft were apparently meaningless. The best, according to ESPN's KC "Don't call me Sunshine" Joyner, was Justin Gilbert of Oklahoma State, 2nd team All-Big 12. Okie State finished #107 in pass defense, but for whatever reason, is now #2, ahead of LSU.

    Top 10 Secondaries

Don't know who KC Joyner is (ESPN Insider for what that is worth...guess that is why I have never wasted my time becoming an ESPN insider). Never heard of Justin Gilbert at Okie State but I'm sure he is OK. Claiborne pretty much proved himself as the best cover guy in college football last season. The only knock I saw on him a little was that he wasn't the best support guy against the run around, and that was also mentioned on draft day by the analysts. But I wouldn't trade him on a pass play coverage with anybody I saw last year in college football.

last year Okie St was #1 in country in turnover margin, #2 in interceptions (LSU was #12), #1 in fumbles gained (LSU was #36)

as for their CB Justin Gilbert, he is like our Tharold Simon.. and TM7 will be fighting both of them in the draft

as for their other CB Brodrick Brown, he's like Ron Brooks, should be drafted 3rd round or so

    Really????? LOL

Lets see LSU was #8 in pass defense with 229 completions out of 437 attempts with 18 INT's for 2400 yards 5.49 yds per attempt

Okie St wasw # 107 322 completions out of 543 attempts with 24 int's for 3534 yds 7.89 yds per attempt.

So were not really trying to compare defenses are secondaries are we?? So yes while okie st had alot of turnovers they also let teams walk down the field on them......including UL Lafayette!!

My brother's favorite team is LSU but his sons went to A&M. Ad nauseum, he talks about how much better the offenses are, how much better the QBs are overall in the Big 12 compared to the SEC. I don't agree with him completely but his passing offense comment IMO are valid. Bottom line: you can't compare without contamination of types of offenses faced how good LSU's defense is vs Okie State's for example. The SEC QB situation overall quite frankly was pathetic last year...Tenn a farce with Bray hurt....LSU's situation 'nuff said...Kentucky...Ole Miss...Miss State...S Carolina....Vandy...Florida a total disaster....Auburn a total disaster...Alabama barely passable. Out of 12 teams, I think most would agree with Bray out at TN, only Arkansas and Georgia had good passing games.

So are you really gonna sit here and try to tell me that Ok state's secondary was as good as LSU's or better? I really dont care what kind of overhyped offense they play in the Big 12......you see it year in and year out that with the"great" big 12 offenses meet the "great" sec defenses.....it's usually the sec defenses that win that battle.....thats all im saying......by the way...UL Lafayetted went 20-37 for 212 yards against okie st.

Also you left Georgia out of you passing comparison.

No, I am NOT going to say that. What I have said is that the SEC passing offenses for the most part were crap. With Bray hurt against LSU for example, LSU played WITHIN the conference a grand total of 2 quality passing teams...Georgia and Arkansas. Okie State played against the Heisman trophy winner Robert Griffin at Baylor, Landry Jones at OU, Texas Tech which brings a passing game, A&M with Ryan Tannehill, Missouri with Franklin, Stanford with Andrew Luck in OOC game, etc. As far as ULL goes, 212 yards on 20 completions is not a lot of yards. Okie State in that same game had 458 yards passing only 28 completions.

Which leads us to the ever-interesting paradox in college football. Passing offenses are sexy, and running, ball control offenses are "boring." But, darn, if those boring offenses and physical defenses haven't found a monopoly on winning national championships.

I get frustrated watching the bad Big-12 games (I live in Texas.)

Agree 100% with you Stacey. My brother and I argued for 2 weeks before the NC game (hard to believe that knowing me, huh? :p). He said "I'm not even watching the NC game because it is boring and they have no offense." First, I said "defense counts as much as offense." Then, I said "you know that the NC game is to determine the best team, right....not the most exciting team?" As you said, defense wins championships as proven last year yet again. Was Stanford in the NC game? Was West Virginia in the NC game? Oregon? Okie State? The two best teams played in the NC game, so everyone needs to just shut up and quit whining (NOT talking about people on this forum!)
