Bernie Sanders is an avowed socialist. That is completely out of step with the U.S. society and polity. Don't say he doesn't really believe. He is as serious as Brownback. Too many on both sides want the govenment to dictate too much about our lives. They want to centralize control in the federal government.
That is totally radical. Few have the strength of conviction that their ideas will prevail in open discourse and want to silence the opposition. If you don't think your ideals can stand up in a debate then you don't have faith in their correctness.

I can't see where he describes himself or ever claimed to be a socialist, that just seems to be a moniker the right likes to throw out when they are scared the people might actually agree with someone.

I see a lot where he says we can learn from Scandinavian Style Socialism, but I can't find a quote where he claims to be a socialist.

What denial you are in. Of course, the guy is conservative and there is nothing liberal about him! What law says that conservatives can't be radical lunatics. Your attempts to blame his radical bullshit on liberals is absolutely laughable. Name me one attempt liberals have made to do get around checks and balances like this. Radical liberals have their own looney agenda, but it ain't this stuff.

His policy is an experiment in Tea Party politics and this is where it is going . . . to fascism. And fascism has always been defined as ultra-conservative right wing fanatics. This is the same crap we heard when George Bush went off the deep end. Suddenly right-wingers were saying that the neocons were not "real" conservatives. And now radial right-wingers have gotten so displeasing that traditional conservatives are calling them liberals! You are so confused.

Winston, there is a pragmatic moderate in you trying to get out. Let go of that tired old ideological baggage you carry and realize that both ends of the political spectrum are filled with radical lunatics and the path for sensible, practical people is in the broad middle.
