For the record, and because someone asked, here's the story on penalties today: LSU 9 for 66yds UM 8 for 74 yds
LSU hasnt played a clean game since the Va Tech game. The D line has not played well at all. THey are still called the top line, but they arent. They dont get much penetration, the only time there is heat is on a blitz. Teams are gashing with the run. The QB doesnt get pressure so he has time to take apart the man coverage. If LSU can put it all together I agree, I dont think anyone can stay with us. When the O is on the D is off, and vice versa. The special teams was always a plus for LSU, now its a weakness. The coverage is horrific. If LSU doesnt work out some kinks they will not beat Georgia, in Georgia. Right now they are playing possibly the best ball in the country. I will commend the O today though. They looked very good. It was great to see Williams finally get some touches and gee look what he does. For the most part Flynn played well. The OL does need to pass block a lot better though.
holy crap bro....THEY WERE THE #1 DEFENSE IN THE COUNTRY COMING INTO THIS GAME....FOR THE UMPTINTH TIME....what do you want?!?!
The loss of each was certainly big. Still, the D hasnt played looked good in a while. Sanders is hard nose kid but his lack of coverage skills and overall speed is really hurting the team. Id like to see Riley or Jones in there. I think Jones needs more PT. Also, Nevis was playing well, but wasnt in there a whole lot. I think he might do a better job than Favorite. Havent seen enough of him to say but he appears to get more penetration.
Is Favorite still playing hurt? Nevis has looked good in his appearances. How's Al Woods coming along?
Whatever. Here are some facts. Can't discard an undefeated season - it's tough to do. But it's easier when you don't play Top 20 teams. LSU is winning despite ugly play - and against tough opponents like Auburn, Florida, Virginia Tech (will then break into top 7?). Oklahoma is losing, Oregon lost - both to unranked teams. Tenn barely beat Vandy, almost loss in last seconds. LSU won by 17, ugly 17, but 17. I like the road we're on - Tenn, then Kansas? Cool. Much better than UGA then Mizzou or Oregon (w/Dixon). But, in the final analysis, I agree with CLM. It's not about the other team. It's about the Tigers and how they play. Which, lately, has been good enough to win. :LSU231:
