I don't think that's gonna happen. Obama wants an appointment. And by nominating Sri he really forces the GOP's hand. Lynch would be filbustered and blocked at every step.

 

My research indicates lots and lots of people allege that Obama may have killed Scalia, including Alex jones, a man with a huge listener base. So he wasn't joking.

 

Yeah I've read that too. Alex Jones gotta love him man. He is right about some things but most of the time he is the straight up tinfoil hat dude.

 

I think you're right. That would be the logical play to get someone confirmed.

 

He fits the Obama ideological profile but he has no political benefit IMO, ie, he does nothing to sway voters at the next election. Attorney General Lynch is the most likely candidate. I think the administration is likely to nominate her, that the Senate will initially refuse to proceed with the nomination but ultimately accede after delaying the process significantly, and then vote her down on party lines. At that point, Republicans will slow-walk a follow-up nominee and claim that it is too close to the election to act on the candidate.

There is some imperative to move quickly, because each passing week strengthens the intuitive appeal of the Republican argument that it is too close to the election to confirm the nominee. Conversely, a nomination that is announced quickly allows Democrats to press the bumper sticker point that Republicans would leave the Supreme Court unable to resolve many close cases for essentially “a year.”

I think the administration would relish the prospect of Republicans either refusing to give Lynch a vote or seeming to treat her unfairly in the confirmation process. Either eventuality would motivate both black and women voters."

 

Perhaps I was only hoping he was joking. That notion is so far beyond stupid that it doesn't have a word.

Except that Obama's goal, the Democrat's goal is not just to get someone elected. It's also to extort maximum political benefit while delivering the worst possible blow to the right.
