I think it started hitting me when I was in the Orlando airport flying to Atlanta. Walking through the terminal in my LSU sweatshirt three people yelled GEAUX TIGERS to me. I got goosebumps then and then when I was in the Atlanta airport no LESS then 10 GEAUX TIGERS and a couple of congrats. THEN waiting for my ride outside the airport some guy drives by and yells (at the TOP of his lungs) GEAUX TIGERS!!! By this time even as tired and hungover I was I went into full cheer mode and yelled back at the top of mine! Other then giving the people around me a heartattack it was a lot of fun and the guy honked his horn!!! Then atlantabengal, his wife, the most beautiful baby girl, and I were sitting in the hotel lobby visiting and some guy walks up to him and congratulates him on LSU winning! Thank goodness atlantabengal had something to do with it! By the way thanks to them for keeping me company and letting me hold the baby the ENTIRE time we hung out! I have said this before but I will again win or lose Monday night I was soo proud of this team and the coaches! This was truely a magical season for LSU and also me personally watching them. A big part of what made this season special to me (minus the actual football part of it) was TF, Team Katt, and TDT. I met new people and got to hang out with old friends! At the end of the book Dixieland Delight, Travis makes some refenernce to being at an SEC game and tailgate and taking a moment just to reflect on where you are and how perfect it is. (Can't remember the exact quote but that is what I got out of it) During the Arky tailgate after playing football with Wee's son (he outlasted me) I sat down in a chair to rest and get my breath back. I did just that, I was sitting alone kinda away from everybody in the sun and just looked around at everybody talking, eating, drinking, and laughing and got goosebumps! I was so proud of the tigers and my new and old friends, and felt HONORED to be apart of it all! I LOVE LSU AND EVERYTHING IT HAS GIVEN ME THIS SEASON!!! Thanks Tigers, TF, Team Katt, and TDT!!!!
I love hearing everyone's stories/feelings about this "damn strong football team". So here's mine: I have always been a Tiger fan, but never had the opportunity to get to BR for a game. (I spent 7 1/2 yrs in the Army; May 1996- Oct 2003) Last year, my 1st son was born on Jan 2nd, 2007. My son's first picture was taken with a LSU onesy on. My recovering wife, my newborn son, and I watched the Sugar Bowl from our hospital room in Monroe, LA. I was the loudest person on our end of the hospital as I cheered for the Tigers while they dismantled ND. I told my wife, "I have got to get to Tiger Stadium and see a game. At least once in my lifetime". Later I told friends and family members the same. I watched every televised game, and those that weren't I listened to on the radio. I knew this team was special. My best friend called the morning of the Arky game to tell me he had an extra ticket. I was going to Tiger Stadium. We had a blast!!! I cannot compare it to anything. However, because LSU lost I have been banned by my family from ever going again. LOL Seeing these guys win the National Championship makes it that more special for me and I will cherish these days forever. I saw them play once, IN PERSON. Let it sink in ladies and gentlemen. We are Undisputed National Champions of college football. :crystal: :champs: :crystal: :champs: :crystal:
No doubt about it!!!!! It's the first time LSU has been the Undisputed National Champions in half a century. Think of all your years as a Tiger fan, how much pride we've always taken in remembering the Billy Cannon-led Tigers and their Chinese Bandit defense. We still wear the white home jerseys that they wore (same jersey stripes and everything), we play the Chinese Bandit song to honor our defenses of today, we still have the same H-style posts in Tiger stadium that we had during the Billy Cannon years, and we have the crossbar from the one of field goal posts we used on the field during the 1958 season hanging above the LSU players' entrance to Tiger Stadium (the tradition is for every LSU player to touch that 1958 crossbar before going onto the field, much like ND players touch the "Play Like a Champion Today" sign before they enter their field). In all my years as a Tiger fan, I've always dreamed about having another team as great as the 1958 team. The 2003 team wasn't even close. They never finished #1 in any poll at any point during the regular season (whereas the 1958 Tigers spent 5 weeks of the regular season ranked at #1), and they would have never finished #1 in any poll at the end of the season had the Coaches Poll not previously agreed to award their crystal Coaches Trophy to the winner of the BCS game, which, unfortunately was a joke that year, with #2 LSU getting stuck with #3 Oklahoma (who had just gotten blown out by Kansas St the game before) instead of #1 USC. And speaking of the crystal Coaches Trophy, LSU is not the first two-time winner of the crystal. The Coaches Poll has awarded that same crystal trophy to every winner of their final poll since 1986. Miami has won the crystal trophy three times. In the SEC, Florida has won the crystal trophy twice. Florida State has also won it twice. Go to visit their campuses and see for yourself. Like I said, in all my years as a Tiger fan, I've always dreamed about having another team as great as the 1958 team. That finally happened with the 2007 Tigers. The 2007 Tigers were the first Tiger team since 1959 to be ranked #1 during the regular season, and they spent four weeks at #1. At the end of the season, the 2007 Tiger played in a real championship game, with every human poll agreeing that Ohio State was #1 and LSU was #2. Finally, finally, finally, LSU has had a team as great as the 1958 Tigers!!!!! FINALLY!!!!!! I look forward to seeing equally-great Tiger teams in the future!!!!!!!
