When Nick left LSU. This job was probably one of the best jobs in the country. Agree? Now I don't remember what the dollar figure was, but our AD put a cap on what he was going to pay LSU's next coach. Instead of going out with the attitude of, I'm going get the best coach no matter what. That being said I think Miles has done a remarkable job. But do you think LSU would be lucky to find as good a coach the second go round with that type of attitude as far as pay rate goes?
LSU has never went after a big name coach and threw money at them. I don't think it would be different this time, regardless of the AD. And as you admitted, LSU didn't do too bad.
You are correct. They did not do bad THIS TIME. LSU has never been as good as they are now or when Saban left. Why not go after the best and throw the money at them? Again, this is only "IF" Miles leaves. I hope and prey that he only gets better and better as a coach and stays for a long long time. But only if he improves as a coach. This living on the edge, with these tight scores, is gonna bite us one day.
Bill Cowher He has now sat out the mandatory 1 year since retiring from the Steelers and will now be able to take a college job while still pulling his 4+ mill a year retirement check. LSU coughs up 2-2.5 mill Steelers coughs up 4-5 mill Cowher get the best job in the nation and make 6-7.5 mill a year. Plus the man has a record of sticking around.
that'd be cool then we'd definitely win a "our coach can beat up your coach" contest but i think south florida could give us a run for our money.
This Thread is crazy, funny, and what's wacky the most...is it just might pan out. If Miles leaves for UM, Saban comes back to Baton Rouge, and buys all the Tiger season ticket holders Free Boudin for a year. Ofcourse we acept the Boudin, But Saban has to live in a Duck Camp on Pontchartrain till he wins a NC.
I don't recall that Skip put a cap on what he would spend. He just said that what we agreed to pay Nick after the NC wasn't going to be the starting point. Nick was the highest paid coach in college football when he left LSU. I think LSU did go after the best coach available. If Nick had walked at the end of the regular season, both Spurrier and Meyers would have been on the table, but they already had new jobs by the time Nick bailed at the end of December. A couple of surprisingly big names expressed interest, but would not interview or allow their names to be mentioned unless they were guaranteed the job up front. Petrino openly wanted the LSU job, but he blew his interview badly. Miles was the best coach available and definitely among the top tier of coaches looking for an upgrade. Miles pay was competitive for a coach with upward mobility. Nick had been getting paid for delivering the national championship.
doesn't Miles contract state that if he should win the NC his raise would put him #3 highest paid coach in the country behind Saban and Meyer I think.
Not going after the best and throwing money has worked the last 2 times. Saban wasn't considered the best when he arrived, and Neither was Miles. Both hirings seemed to work out just fine.
