This post is killin me. Spurrier, Tuberville, Zook???      I'd consider giving Pelini a shot. I hope CLM doesn't go anywhere but I think he already has a buyout clause if the Michigan job becomes available. If that happens we lose him and probably Pelini. Way too much to worry about now. There will be all winter to speculate about this stuff. Back to the game. :tigereye:
Gary Moeller was hand picked by Bo as a replacement. When he took over he opened up the offense considerably. He had Elvis Grbac at qb with a couple of decent wideouts. He still had a decent running game and a decent D. Didn't set the world on fire with his record, I think he averaged like 9-3. not great but still respectable. After his 3rd season or so he got drunk, loud and arrested and was fired the next day. Carr took over and is still there. At times he seems more conservative than Bo was. The vast majority of fans would love to see it open up some. Carr really only opens it up when he has to. Who knew Tom Brady could be so good? I don't think he got a 300 yd game until his last game, 400+ against Alabama. As I recall it was like 21-7 in the 1st q. Carr opened it up and used those assetts he wasted all yr. I think that character as well as coaching skills are requirements for the job. IMHO The higher ups wouldn't consider a coach that puts winning above everything. Bad press makes them very unhappy, (see Gary Moeller)If B Bowden and JoePa were 30 years younger I believe Joepa might get an offer, but not Bowden. Its all in the rep for integrity. They are big on that around here. On CLM's recent gambles I think the vast majority up here would like a surprise every now and then. Carr is pretty predictable. I don't think the play book has changed that much in the last 20 yrs. BHD
Close. The score never was 21-7. It was 14-7 at the half, tied up at the start of third. There were 5 touchdowns in the 3rd quarter alone. Michigan did come back from being down by 2 TD's, twice. Brady did light it up that day. Alabama held Michigan to less than 30 yards (subtracting the sacks) rushing that day and your total offensive production was a bit over 400. Terrell (?) had a big game that day as well...if I recall correctly it was right at 150 yards in receptions. I remember that game clearly. Phlugner, Bama PK, had been pushing his kicks right all year. I knew in that OT when we scored a TD that Ryan was going to miss the extra point. He did. Despite the loss, it was a good ball game.
I disagree. No coach has done so little with so much talent. Every year Michigan is loaded with talent, yet never makes a serious run at the NC.
I kinda like Peterson at Boise State. Smart, innovative offense. Look at what they did against Oklahmo in a BCS bowl game. I also like Navy's Paul Johnson. Like OSU's Tressel, Johnson has won multiple NCs at Div-1AA. After that, Johnson took a really bad Navy program, and built it up. He's done a very, very good job at Navy, considereing the hurdles he faced. And, he was the first coach to beat ND in like 44 years. Somebody once said that the toughest stuff a football player will face are all the football stuff. At the acadamies, the football stuff is the easiest stuff those players need to deal with. There's a reason why he's Coach of the Year.
OT a bit...Rich Brooks didn't do a bad job (record didn't reflect it) of building a foundation for Belloti to build on. I still say the team to watch is Kansas. A loss and they're out of the picture. But, I also think they have a better shot at jumping LSU than Oregon.
One thing for sure. "IF" Miles leaves for MEEEEESHEGAN. I do not feel comfortable with ole' Stanley doing another coaching search.:insane:
