Obviously, many fans have moved on, but Wednesday was sort of the first "formal" decompression day for Coach Trent Johnson as he met with the local press. So, you'll see a lot of press today about it all over. I won't say a lot, just that it goes without saying that this was a great year, where I think many folks will look back and say, one, we hired the right guy, and two, this was a special class of individuals--loyal to LSU and the local community. You look at the glue of this team, Tas', Temple, M.Thornton, Spencer, and they're (again) all kids that have B.R. ties and care about LSU. And, they played their asses off for a coach that was not a known commodity in SEC country, but proved he can flat out coach wherever he is. I hope future LA kids will see that same kind of pride and character and develop under CTJ's tutelage. This says it all, in a quote from Coach Johnson: "I don't listen to a lot of things," Johnson said, "but Coach (Roy) Williams said it's really hard to have good players who aren't great players be able to play as a group and win like that." Thanks for the season, gentlemen. :geauxtige
assuming no Fr start bass at 1 spencer at 2 farrer/graham at 3 mitchell at 4 warren at 5 with farrer/graham, green (if healthy), harris and two Fr on the bench. or with luck spencer at 1 dotson at 2 mitchell at 3 green at 4 warren at 5 best case scenario---spencer gets more consistent. mitchell gives 20+ ppg. dotson can score. green can score and defend the post some. warren becomes a 10-10 guy that can pass. farrer can be counted on to hit open 3s. graham becomes a solid defender. harris will not contribute. ludwig can score some if Tas is out and has the quickness to defend at 3. bottom line is lsu has one dependable player. can spencer play 2 all game at a high level? how will loss of mthornton affect spencer? all others need to develop, so prospects on the season are dim. it may be very difficult to score.
This is what I'd like to see assuming a healthy Green. I love Bass's quickness and he will work on scoring. I'd start him at PG. Bo moves over to the 2 with Dotson coming off of the bench. 25/15 minutes. Bo will shift to the 1 to spell Bass at times. Tas shifts down to the 3. with Graham coming in off of the bench there. Storm at the 4. Tas shifts up to 4 when Graham comes in. Green at the 5 with Harris as his backup.
Bo Spencer averaged 12 PPG. That's pretty dependable in my opinion. I really like him to shift to starting at the 2 with Dotson getting major minutes. This will enable Bo to spell Bass and log about 34 total minutes a game between the two positions. I just like Bass's quickness too much. Green needs to be starting at the 5. I like Warren at the 4, but he needs to improve all facets of his offensive game to see any time. Tasmin will be able to play more of an outside game now that our 6'10" folks are ready to play.
What's the story on Garrett Green? I know he sat out this past year with back pain. Is he good to go for next season? There's another guy who was in street clothes all year, Harris maybe? Are either viable as potential sec starters? edit: I see deek has it covered
the team will depend on him more so he cant have as many 1 for 5 or 3 for 9 shooting nights. needs to improve on the 42% 2pt FG%. dude was under his avg in all losses but Vandy. youre probably right. just read that ctj said tasmin is moving back to 3. i just wonder if green can bang like warren, and certainly green's offensive game is reportedly more perimeter. although we just had a pretty good season with cj.
I think most of that was taking bad shots off of the dribble. If he doesn't have to handle the ball as much being a SG, I don't think he's going to have to take as many shots floating to his left. :hihi: He should be up to 240ish by the season. Shouldn't be a problem if healthy (HUGE IF though) I'm excited to see what these guys can do.
