all that has to be said about the GA is that to see a night game, you have to miss the earlier game -- if you want a seat, that is. the first game against UVA was bad. we got into omaha at about, oh i don't know, about 1 pm or so and the lines were already long for a 6 pm game. in other words, if you want to see BOTH games in one day, you need to try for an upgrade so that you can get a reserved seat. that isn't bad, except that you have to camp out like okie did. lol. the outfield is usually a LOT rowdier than the grandstand area too. if i wouldn't have been with okie for the LSU - ARK game, i'd have been in RF again. your best bet is to use the buddy system or make friends with locals who will hold you a spot in line while you shop, tailgate or WATCH AN EARLIER GAME! ticket prices aren't too expensive to get reserved seats, but GETTING them is the problem. scalpers suck up most of the reserved tickets forcing a lot of people who don't have the cash into buying GA tickets for ten bucks which just exacerbates the problem. the outfield is CRAMMED full of fans on top of one another. i'm not in favor of raising the ticket prices since it is a fun and inexpensive family activity, but i think that the new stadium needs to increase its capacity. the CWS just gets bigger and bigger each year. especially with LSU, Texas and Ark in the CWS. plus newcomers USM and UVA traveled well... plus UNC had a fair amount of fans as well. didn't see very many fullerton or asu fans though.
which is true. the problem is that the people who WANT to be there and cheer are forced into the GA lines and have to fight for a spot outfield. a lot of locals and fans who seemingly could care less about the games get to sit in the reserved granstand seats. i can't complain though, i'll pay what i'd have to see  win. it just gets to be an expensive trip to only see three out of eight games -- and even getting THAT many in is tough.
i have 3 questions. How does getting the tickets work when i reserved them through LSU? how much are the tickets the scalpers are selling. Some friends didn't reserve. Is it that much more or is it worth it not to have to wait in line? We are driving up there and i am looking for the best route. mapquest has me on a 17 hour drive and I know there are shorter routes but it's on highways, not interstates. Anyone made the drive wanna share their path?
i dont know about the other games, but i was told that for last nights lsu game they were getting $125. thats for a $20-$25 face value ticket. when i was in the upgrade line, i will say that it was easily 3/4 lsu fans. we travel VERY well and the scalpers know it. there are only about 1000 tickets/seats available for upgrade each day. i was number 200 in the line getting there at 7:30 and each person in line can upgrade up to 6 tickets. obviously not everyone does, but there were very few upgrade seats left by the time i got to the window. and it was a loooong line behind me so a lot of people didnt get to upgrade. they better have had a buddy standing in the GA line holding their spot. i have been there and been in the GA line in at what i thought was an early enough time to get in and not. thank god it was not an lsu game! thats why i prefer to get my ass out there early and get an upgrade. oh, and tell them to take lots of cash. not just for scalpers, if needed, but to upgrade ga tickets, they take cash or check only. no credit card.
pick them up at the will call. people behind us paid 120 for a seat that i paid 20 dollars for. if that's the case, get in line early and enjoy the outfield. but you'll miss the first game. have a buddy system setup so that someone can hold your spot while you need to pee. bring your ice chest but be careful, no open containers. just need to be a bit creative.
for me it is 9 hours from the river bridge to my house, and from my house 7 hours to omaha. sorry, i cant save you much time.
We got home Tuesday night around midnight. Great trip. Made it to 4 games. This was my kids' first time so I tried to make it as fun as possible. They each brought a friend with them. We sat in GA for all 4 games (2 on sat, sun night, and mon. night). I asked the kids if they wanted to wait in line early to get reserved seats or wait even longer to get in GA. They all wanted GA. They said it looked like reserved wasn't having as much fun. We got in line around 1:00pm Mon for the LSU game. We were very close to the front of the line. Our seats were in LF on the 3rd row. The kids had a ball. Last year, I got to the upgrade line early (around 7:00am) and got great reserved seats. We saw 4 games in reserved last year. I have to agree w/ the kids. GA is a lot more fun. We met a ton of ppl while in line and had a great time. I was really worried about the kids getting bored, but they played catch, watched movies on their phones, sunbathed, etc. The time went by fast and a good time was had by all. One of the reasons Doug and Emma wanted to sit in the outfield was to catch a fly ball. Doug caught one before the first game during batting practice. He was stoked! I, too, hate it that I didn't get to meet Okie or JayB. It kills me to think I was w/i 100 yards of them and we didn't meet. Oh well, there's always football season! If the tigers make it through the weekend, we are probably gonna scoot back up on Sunday. Okie, shall we swing by and pick you up? Okie, your pics are way better. I did more videos than pics this time. However, I did post a few.
nice pics. but why are two of those children wearing short horn wear? shouldnt that have been grounds for walking home from omaha?
I've never been to the CWS and hate to wait in line. Is that the only way to get tickets (I mean, other than scalpers)? They don't send them out to the colleges invited so you can get them in advance (like a football bowl game)?
Not my kids so I couldn't beat them! We do live in Texas now (although I still can't figure out why that matters). You'll notice that my kids are dressed appropriately :thumb:
