and Kasey Kahne anounces driving the Bud car. Not sure about Kahne and the Budweiser making much since. But at least all the Tatoo shops can thank Jr for bringing in extra business for all those people add another 8. On a side note, What yall think of "Smoke" goin to Toyota next year? I personally am a die hard Yota fan, maily because thats all I've ever driven and you just can kill them. So you can imagine how happy I was that my favorite driver went to Toyota shop.
Tony won't be the only "smoke" in that car.....after watching this year, they can't keep a toyota on the track!
That was a bold move by Joe Gibbs Racing to go to Toyota. My jaw dropped when I saw/heard that announcement. I think they may struggle next season and possibly the year after. On the other hand, I don't think Gibbs would make that move if he didn't feel that Toyota will show vast improvement over the next couple of years.
Is Jr becoming overrated? I think he better put up some numbers next year or his star will begin to tarnish.
JR is overrated. I dont think it makes any difference whatsoever though because he is the 2nd highest paid sports endorser behind Tiger. Nascar fans are blindly loyal and as long as his name is Dale Earnhardt he is going to sell a lot of whatever it is he endorses. From a racing perspective he has never really deserved the accolades except maybe at Daytona and Talladega. Those are the only places he's really had any measure of success.
I am not a Jr fan, per se...but I think he's a very likable figure. He's down to earth, funny, and a pretty good driver. That said, you're absolutely right...he is, and always has been...overrated. He is living off of his daddy's name...and I'm OK with that. I'm glad he's going to a team that always contends...because this is his time to prove me wrong about his ability.
The only reason people can dislike Dale Jr. is because of the attention he gets. He is a good guy and doesn't pretend to be the best driver. he knows why the people like him and uses it to his advantage. He is a smart guy.
Alright! I am soo tired I can barely keep my eyes open but can't not respond to this thread! #1 I agree that it was a ballsy call for Gibbs to go to Toyota, but I think that GIbbs figures with thier money and his leadership and drivers that he can make Toyota a contender! #2 I AM NOT A JR fan at all but I have to say that I do not believe he is overrated. I believe that in the right situation and in the right team you aren't going to be liking im for other reasons (unless you are a JR fan). Also JR will always be marketable! His last name alone will ensure that, but last that JR is what the fans want. A good ole boy, whom fans can relate to. A nice guy but can get his mouth running when it needs to run. He balances the reputation that comes with the last name perfectly with showing class. Men enjoy watching him race and women love him (except me). That is all you need to know to understand why JR will always be marketable! Thanks for listening and I am going to try not to hall alsleep before Survivor!
I actually think Smoke will make the chase next year. All these cars are essentially the same except for the nose (which with the COT they aren't that different at all). The real work is going to be getting the power band on the engines up to snuff. Which Toyota has improved this year dramatically already. Hell, I would be suprised if Kyle Bush or Hamlin made it also. But I'm not going to go as far as say they will win a Championship next year.
