I think the proper way to handle it is to go ALL IN with either JJ or Lee. Don't have JJ looking over his shoulder this Saturday afternoon. Give him a vote of confidence or yank him completely RIGHT NOW and tell Lee it's his boat to captain now and give him all the reps with the #1 unit. Playing the middle ground is a recipe for further ineffectiveness of QB play going forward.
This is something I have been thinking about for a few days but since I am a virtual football illiterate, I don't have an answer: Assuming JJ has hit his ceiling, how do you gameplan to maximize the team's chances of success? What plays to do you call? (and what about JL, how do you gameplan with him?)
If you watched last week's game, the plays we tried to execute were so simple and yet we couldn't execute them. At this point, it doesn't appear that whatever we call works in the passing game. You would think we could throw a quick screen or something to start the game to get him going. JJ's confidence is so shot, he might short arm that throw, unbelievable as it may seem. If they truly are going to go with JJ this week, I beg the coaching staff to take the first 10 plays and make them all pass plays. And I'm talking going down the field pass plays, with a dunk and a dunk mixed in. Let him know you're confident in his abilities. We're playing Tennessee. Even if he goes 0-10 and we punt the first 3 times on 3 and outs, we'll still probably beat them convincingly. The UAB QB threw for 430 yards against the Vols.
I totally disagree. That is what we've been doing since Perrilloux left, which has gotten us two QBs with bruised psyches. Both need to play, both need to take a break and see the game from the sideline. Jefferson is not the answer, Lee is probably not the answer, I think we're better off if both are playing. I'd try Lee immediately, and if he isn't getting it done, give both QBs play time. Of course, I expect that we'll see Jefferson for Tennessee, with Lee holding a clipboard. And there will be boos. And a pathetic offense.
Sorry, but HE WAS HORRIBLE last year as well. I guess you do have a point, "come up with some play calling that is surrounded by every good thing JJ has done"... lets see, that would be hand off right, hand off left, drop back to pass and run around until they tackle me for a 10 yard loss... THAT IS ALL we got with JJ in the game. At least with Lee he was moving the ball up and down the field and putting up points, we just didn't have a defense that could absorb the "pick 6" every game.
