I'm not sure his time will come. Lee is playing at a high level for a freshman and as long as he continues to develop like he should and doesn't have a Justin Vincent type meltdown, it's really going to take a spectacular player to supplant him as the starter. And I mean SPECTACULAR...not just good.

I just have a good feeling about Lee behind center. Jefferson really may never get a start without injury unless Lee goes pro after his junior year. And then, he'll have to beat out one Russell Sheppard to do it.

Here's my dumb idea of the day (ok, afternoon - I had a worse idea this morning)... I'm not a coach or a player, so I can afford to look past Troy - let's face it, we're going to beat them.

So... let Jefferson and all other players who rarely get playing time (but aren't red-shirting this year) play that game. Let the regulars get some well-deserved rest (we will have played 5 games by then - Florida, South Carolina, Georgia, Tulane, and Bama), and it will be very nice to give the starters a break heading into a potentially tough game against Ole Miss, then Arkansas, and hopefully the SEC Championship game. Plus the obvious positives for those guys who normally don't play very much... it gives them some good experience.

That is what USC fans said about Stanford last year. Of course, they might have won if they did it!

Well, then you run the risk of knocking the team out of their rhythm. This is a problem that happens when teams in the NFL rest their starters going into the playoffs. If the players know that they're going to sit out, they don't practice and prepare like they normally would, and that may come back to haunt you in the end.

A likely scenario is one that's kind of a compromise: have the starters play maybe a quarter or a half and then yank them (once the game is well in hand). That's generally the modus operandi of Les in these kinds of games.

True, but remember that the Troy game was re-scheduled due to hurricane damage - that was supposed to be a bye week.
Yep, that would be a better idea than mine... :)

Who said anything about replacing the QB? My point of starting this thread was not for Jefferson to replace Lee. It was if Jefferson was going to play in the game, why do it on a goal line situation and then never give him another snap.

Now that we burned his redshirt, why didn't we use him a few plays on some series in the 4th quarter? Who knows when we might need him if Hatch can't perform in future games.

Lee is and will be the starter. I've been impressed with the guy since watching his videos well before we signed him. I was not one of the net-nuts on this forum who wanted to bench the guy for throwing the pick or going 0 - 5 last week in the 1st half. He has the tools and will be a great one.

If you listen to what CLM says, JJ will get some PT in games where it makes sense.

I don't think Lee should get comfy yet. JJ will be pushing him for that job for the next 2-3 years. And RS isn't far behind. And I have a feeling Garrett is going to be better than his 3 stars indicate.

And there are some good ones that are likely to commit in 2010 as well.

i was shocked that CLM would put JJ in on a third and goal i think it was
if he didnt score it would be a confidence crusher
he fumbled but thankfully his knee was down condifence crusher
he wasnt put in after that play confidence crusher

why not put him in the game and just run it with scott or get him some confidence on a short pass
    just one pass or so
