I have to say.. What I saw out of Jordan Jefferson was very disappointing. I saw little to no progression from him compared to last year. I saw a very selfish player who looked very confused at times. Although he did have a few nice plays, I thought his over performance was on par with last year. I believe that it is time to try something else at QB. I am convinced that Jefferson is NOT our QB of the future. If it wasn't for our excellent special teams play and our solid D performance, we would have lost this game. I hate to say it but I am in favor of putting Mr. pick six back in and see what he can do. As for Les Miles, I have been a supporter of him but frankly, I was real disappointed that he let off the gas and allowed them to come back from 20 points down. I hope Les Miles learned his lesson from this. We are far from a National Championship contender....
Well, Jefferson does well when his primary read is open. It's when he has to go through read progression and look for the secondary or tertiary target that he falls flat, panics and tries to scramble. He was also touted to be a good running QB for the multiple option offense. Well, he runs too deep for the triple option and doesn't know how to read the rush on the spread option. He's an OK runner but I think Shepard running that spread option would be better. Has anyone seen Shepard ever throw the ball?
No sacks, 50+ yrd pass, Stepped up in the pocket. He really only had 2 bad plays, the Int and the intentional grounding. I saw some receivers not make important catches HOWEVER, WE HAVE A GOOD TE!!!!!!!! I like those passes to 83!!!
There one surefire way to improve the play of JJ - PLAY JARRETT LEE. Lee should have been the starting QB leading off the 2nd half, just after JJ threw that awful wounded-duck of a pass ending the 1st half. Besides, how do you give your QB backup gametime experience with a 20-point lead if you don't play him? Oh well, coaching seems to require as much experience as D.C. politics - NONE.:geaux:
?? I have to admit, of all the just blatently negative tripe I waded through last night, not even the Prince of Negativity himself brought that little gem of a suggestion up. You frighten and confuse me...
With little run game to speak of (other than Shepard's big play), he put together a decent game. I'm more concerned with our backs fumbling than I am with our QB who only made two bad decisions all night, neither of which cost us the game. He didn't have a great game, but he didn't hurt LSU either. My biggest concern with Jefferson is that he never puts together 4 good quarters. I'd love to see more consistency out of him this year, but at the same time, he's the least of our worries when our starting RB fumbles twice.
Not sure I understand the selfish part. But I am on board with the 'very confused'. For the past two years, every TV close up of him as he receives the plays from the sideline JJ has an incredulous 'What?' look on his face. This could not inspire confidence in the rest of the team.
This +1. JJ really had only two bad plays last night, and they both had two things in common. He was not able to find the secondary receiver, and he tried to avoid the rush by backpedaling. On both plays, by the time he released the ball, he was 20-25 yards behind the line of scrimmage, way too far to do anything effective. They should be watching for this in practice, and the moment JJ tries to avoid the rush by backpedaling, they should blow the play dead, and JJ should do a few up-downs.
