Hell, from the looks of it, JJ has every bit of an arm Lee has.

It looks to me like they recruited a guy who has played football for only two years (this being his third), and we're seeing how he really doesn't understand the game (the role of the different positions on defense - Safteys, CBs, LBs, etc), especially the QB position. I wonder how many QBs there are that went to college after only playing football for 2 years, and turned out to be successful. Then compare them to the guys who have played QB, or at least football, for most of their lives.

There had to have been someone else they could have picked up along with Lee who wasn't so much of a project, because with Lee's inexperience, that's really what he is. I doubt he's just going to "get it" by next season. I hope down the road, when recruiting QBs, they go after someone who has been around the game for a while. I understand his stats in HS were great, as are many, many other HS QB's we never see, but he's with the big boys now.

I'm willing to bet that JJ has played football since he was probably 6 years old. In that one game, you can tell he already has a better feel for the game than Lee. I understand that we need to see more of JJ before we crown him, but Lee has much farther to go than JJ, imo.

But he hasn't been getting good coaching that long. Remember how long it took Russell to break the habits from grass lot football? There were only two plays . . . Jamarcus run da ball and Homie go long. He was great at those two plays but it took him three years to understand a division I playbook.

Great post. And it should be reminded that J-Lee went to Elite-11 QB camp after HS. He won awards there for his accuracy and was voted "Quickest Release". He's not as bad as he's playing. He might have turned out to be a bust, but coming out of HS he was very highly regarded. I think he might have actually been the number one pro-style QB in the country, come to think of it.

And right up through the Sugar Bowl, every time Jamarcus took off with the ball I held my breath because I knew there was about a 50/50 chance he was gonna cough it up.

The problem is Lee's gonna have to do a whole lot of work on his overall game to stay ahead of the pack. Jefferson is at least a running threat. Jamarcus could use his size to get out of a lot of bad pass rush situations (and relied on it a bit too much IMO). Those guys at least had that extra dimension to bring to their game. Lee has neither, and at this point he's an Andre Woodson-style pocket passer with poor mobility and poor accuracy. Having said that, he seems like a great kid and was thrown into one of the worst possible circumstances for an inexperienced QB to try to succeed in. If he sticks around I'll be pulling for him.

Well, neither has Lee. It's hard to imagine 2 years being enough.

I understand that, but how many newbie QBs are there that just pick up the game after two years and turn out to be successful? I've heard it happen with RBs and WRs, but not so much with QBs. I would imagine that the vast majority of successful QBs were playing the game much longer than 2 years, if not their whole life.

These are the guys that have had football running through their vains from childhood. What keeps a guy away from football for so long? Did someone see him throw a ball and say, "Hey, let's get him in pads?" That's what it looks like on the field (right now).

Why are you being so hard on a Freshman QB when it's veterans on both sides of the ball that have gotten us a 7-4 record to this point?

We're having a discussion. Why do you care?

Veterans have gotten a lot of blame, especially in other threads. This thread, however, is about how Jefferson will "take reigns over offense next season," and solid arguments are being made to support that claim.

How about you contribute instead of always trying to police and rip everyone?

    Silly, neocon. :dis:

Not ripping you. I find it amusing that you constantly bash Lee every chance you get, not just in this thread. It's like he f'd your wife or something.
