Guys/Gals, I have only posted on here a few times. I am a coach and know the game of football. Let me start this by saying Jefferson is not Drew Brees, however he is the leader of this team. Here are some of the reasons that the passing game struggles: 1. We only send out 3 receivers most of the time and the TE, and backs "Max Protect".. I noticed that Georgia was bringing in Dime pers(6 DB's) and we were sending out 3 receivers. You do the math. Not only that, with max protect, JJ was still getting pressure. 2. Most of the passing routes are 5yrd curls, slants, drags. We do not stretch the opponents defense at all. Most teams know this and jump all of our short routes, which makes completing them difficult. 3. We threw 1 post route to Beckom the whole game. ZERO fly routes to Randle. Again, JJ is not the most accurate, however I think the entire offensive philosophy as it relates to the passing game is very high schoolish. It appears that it is a 2 read system without and check down routes to backs or TE's. ***If we play Saban, I can promise you he will do the following. 1. Saban will stack the box to stop the running game. He will play cover "0" and force JJ to beat them with the pass. This will hurt us because of the simplistic pass philosophy and lack of route combinations. The Coach.
.... does not exists! Yeah .. we know .. this is JJ's football team. blah blah blah. .. but it shouldn't be.
Your post raises several questions in my mind: Did LSU simplify the offense too much this season? or Is that a reflection on the confidence in the QB's passing ability? or Is the passing game philosophy too conservative?
Uhhhh Coach? Explain the Post route where Randle had three yards on the defender that JJ threw so poorly that it he had to break off into a curl route. Come on Man!
Agreed that was the worst pass I have seen in years. It looked like a punt. Or the ones he fired into the turf, or grossly overthrew his WR... It has been hard to watch for 3 years. The random A&M game has been an anomaly and A&M has one of the worst pass defenses in the nation. LSU is great and I am ecstatic about their performance but like someone said. This game (SEC vs UGA) JJ had NO impact on the win, it was the OL, RBs and most importantly the defense. The only thing he did well was hand off and NOT throw a pick (Thankfully because one of his overthrows went right into UGA's hands) No Jefferson has little to no passing ability. Sure every once in awhile when the opposing team puts almost all 11 guys in the box (Which I would do) he completes a few. How many of his few yards he gets are actually RAC yards ? Look at his TD pass was that JJ or a short dump off and Hilliard just steam rolling someone ??? I say the latter. But watching an Andrew Luck, Tyler Wilson, RGIII is like night and day... RGIII has one of the prettiest deep balls I have seen in a long time. JJ and JL have been great Tigers aside from the Bar incident, they have stayed loyal and given all they have. But I am SOOOO ready for a change at QB. JJ is our QB for the next 4 quarters and I will root for him emphatically, it will not change. His job is the same as yesterday dont lose us the game, get the ball as quickly to the play makers and step aside. If he can do that he will leave LSU as a champion (he is already) and all us Naysayers (myself included) can go pound sand. But like many I am ready for something different from that position. LSU is an amazing football team, imagine if we had a deadly QB what this team could be like...... Its the best in the nation now, with a QB sheesh. Bama and no one would have a chance.
It's not complicated. Jefferson is rarely a good passer. There are games where he can be average too good like A&M last year but for the most part is just a bad passer. With all of our backfield weapons, we should be using Lee who is the only true passing threat otherwise everyone and their mother will be in the box, daring Jefferson to make them respect the passing game. They don't with Jefferson at QB and it makes it almost impossible to run. Doesn't matter. One more game to go and we can never discuss it again. Good riddance to the topic of Lee/Jefferson
This is LSU's football team. This is Coach Miles' football team. Both of them should consider themselves lucky to step on the field with this team, as should every other member of the team. You have NO idea what you have no idea about.
Regarding check downs....QB's makes that decision, and goes through his progression by reading the defense not the coaches...which JJ can't do or does not know how. Watching JJ for 4 years now, people have to notice that he does not know how to read defenses..EVEN on option plays (until recently), before this year, I have notice on his "option READS", it doesn't seem like he reads anything, he already knows what he is going to do with the ball as soon as it is snapped
Thanks for the input. I guess the coach knows we can win by running and wants to keep max protection to avoid fumbles and INT's. Let's just hope it works for one more little game.
You think Bama has the personnel to match up with us man-to-man? I know Dre but who else? He would be gambling cause JJ is hit or miss. He can be as beautiful a passer there is at times.
