Seriously? Florida played a Division II team, and yes, well, they kicked that @$$ in the Swamp. Woo--freakin--hoo. We also kicked Appy State's @$$ to open last season. So what?

Yes, USC whipped SJSU (after struggling mightily with them for a quarter and a half; their freshman QB looked like crap until SJSU just couldn't hang with USC's superior athletes anymore.)

Texas? Yes, they spanked ULM, who still managed to score about 20 points on that vaunted Muschamp D.

    So what?????

And when did LSU have this attitude that seems "long gone"? When Saban was here, we always started slow in our openers, unless it was a ULM-style cupcake. Under Miles, we've typically started stronger, but I'm waiting to see how this pans out.

Tirk said in another thread that we could be feeling a lot worse this morning. We could be Ohio State, who barely squeaked by Navy and has USC coming to play next Saturday. Or we could be OU, who lost more than just their opener; they lost their Heisman QB (who actually wasn't doing well before he was injured because OU's OL was worse than ours--by a country mile.)

    This.

People need to realize we're not going to beat every OOC team by 50 points at their own house. LSU's got some adjustments to make and they will. Not to mention they didn't even play Shep, Randle, etc... We all wanted a 41-10 blowout, but it doesn't always work like that. Jeez people, act like you've seen the game of football before.

    On to next week.

just how morose are players required to be after an early road win against a major conference opponent when they are 19 years old? how much emotional investment do you require to be satisfied?

i have heard this before from fans, complaining that players are happy when they should be sad or whatever. it is the worst and stupidest most patheitc thing a fan could ever do.

maybe you should take a step back, its just a game, the whole point is to have fun. and having fun after a win? that is rightest thing there ever was.

If playing a game ceases to be fun, why play at all, right?

I dont see anything wrong at all with JJ joking. The game was over, he was happy to have the W. No problem at all. Its not like he was joking during the game after bad plays.

I do however think the team lacks discipline again this year. Not nearly as bad as last year. The D gave up way too many big plays to celebrate like they did when they actually made a good play. I dont at all mind a cocky attitude, but make sure you back it up.

I normally look at lack of discipline coming with a bunch of penalties, and that's one area that was a bright spot last night. And I didn't see any ridiculous celebrations after successful plays.

I can agree with that. They did a great job of not getting penalties.

I also understand when you in a game you try to psyche yourself up as well. I just had such high expectations for the D last night.

O'rly Martin? Look at Tebow last season, they lose to Ole Piss at home and after Tebows little speech about working harder... they blow everyone out and win the NC and are poised to do it again this year.
I don't fault JJ for being happy... he played great, took some big hits and survived... and threw 3 TDs and 0 INTS... His arm is solid, his speed is good and the boy can flat out play. I have a feeling next year we're gonna be hearing a lot of JJs name mentioned on ESPN. He's gonna be a beast. Just turned 19 a week ago and is 6-5, 220 pounds... let him get another full year of maturement and DAYUM....

I do think LSU needs to be happy with this win... but at the same time realise, this was not their best effort and there's a lot of room for improvement.

Me, too. I was really hoping for a return to defenses of the past, but sometimes, players just have to get out there against an opponent for the coaches to make necessary adjustments. It's one of the reasons the pros play, what?, four preseason games.

what is the relevance? is the idea that a dude who is having fun cant possibly be working hard? again, i ask, how morose do you require players to be? can they half-smile if they win by two touchdowns? maybe a full smile plus laughter for a 50 point blowout? are tears required for a 3 point win?

of course. that what a first game is. iron out the kinks, get a W over a team you should beat. i am sure they will be working on lots of things.

    man, a W is a W in my book.
